It was a very strong year for Best Actress and of course the Academy went for two of the lowest hanging fruit. I’ll just consider Kidman’s nom one for her role in the AMC ad.
If this means Drive My Car gets to play in a local theater, maybe this years' Oscars can be forgiven.
Just for fun, great movies from 2021 with zero nominations: Annette Bad Trip Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar Benedetta Bergman Island The Card Counter C'Mon C'Mon Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time F9: The Fast Saga The French Dispatch The Last Duel Malignant The Matrix Resurrections Memoria Nobody No Sudden Move Old Pig Red Rocket Stillwater The Suicide Squad Titane Movies that did get noms however: Being the Ricardos Coming 2 America Cruella Don't Look Up Free Guy
I had a feeling “Passing” was gonna get steamrolled. It’s too bad because it’s a great movie. Also, “Coming 2 America” deserves its Oscar nom.
Kush getting snubbed is another huge travesty here for sure. His adaptation of West Side Story was inspired.
The virgin 2021 Suicide Squad with zero oscar noms and bombing at the box office vs the chad 2016 Suicide Squad with an oscar win and huge box office success
It'll probably win International Feature with the Best Picture/Director nominations, unless The Worst Person in the World pulls an upset.
power of the dog is gonna run the table and, while i like the movie a lot, it’s going to be a disaster for this institution so @Morrissey should be rooting for that to happen
The Power of the Dog is well-made, but I'm so completely removed from any sort of emotional attachment to it. I feel the same way about Nomadland, last year's frontrunner/big winner, though I liked that a little more. It has me super lethargic going into this Oscars race.
Kidman should have been replaced by: Alana Haim (Licorice Pizza) Jodie Comer (The Last Duel) Rachel Ziegler (West Side Story) Lady Gaga (House of Gucci) Agathe Rousselle (Titane) Renante Reinve (The Worst Person in the World) Emila Jones (CODA) Abigail Breslin (Stillwater) Virgine Efira (Bendetta) Kristen Wiig (Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar) Vicky Krieps (Bergman Island) Emma Stone (Cruella) Ana-Taylor Joy (Last Night in Soho) Rebecca Furguson (Dune) Toko Miura (Drive My Car) Tessa Thompson (Passing) Tilda Swinton (Memoria) Taylour Paige (Zola) Bardem should have been replaced by: Nicholas Cage (Pig) Simon Rex (Red Rocket) Bradley Cooper (Nightmare Alley) Dev Patel (The Green Knight) Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza) Vincent London (Titane) Hidetoshi Nishijima (Drive My Car) Don Cheadle (No Sudden Move) Alessandro Nivola (The Many Saints of Newark) Adam Driver (Annette) Daniel Craig (No Time To Die) Oscar Isaac (The Card Counter) Matt Damon (Stillwater) Keanu Reeves (The Matrix Resurrections) Joaquin Phoenix (C'Mon C'Mon) Leonardo DiCaprio (Don't Look Up, yes really)' Eddie Murphy (Coming 2 America) Idris Elba (The Suicide Squad) Yaya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman)
right. there are much worse movies that could realistically win but this one specifically winning would be horrible for the Oscars being something people, even nominally so, care about
Licorice Pizza doesn't have a shot so I'll be happy with Power of the Dog winning, can't be mad when one of your top 10 movies of the year beats another one just because the other one is higher on the list.
