I am sure Anthony Hopkins is great in The Father, but damn I wanted Riz to win so bad. Sound of Metal is excellent, he did such an incredible job!

So.... Anthony Hopkins actually was the best performance out of that category.

The Night Of is probably the most underrated limited series ever and he is so good in it. I wish they gave it to Chadwick, but the Oscars are dumb anyways. Hopkins had the right idea to just sleep through them lmao.

Movies in award shows are not comparable really. Getting a nomination is almost like saying you were the best or a stand out in your field that year. There are so many genres, scripts, budgets, co-stars and such to factor into what makes a performance a stand out. Also, are you awarding the performance or awarding the person you like the most or has the best story. It’s really a silly thing. Getting the nomination is huge and needs to be celebrated more than the last person standing on the stage with a statue. I’m sure there aren’t unanimous winners. That’s why the winner on the stage usually congrats the other nominees first. It’s not sports with stat line and results (which are even debated) when handing out MVP’s.

Fans just need to be exposed to these movies considered exceptional that year and check out those that are of interest to you.

Award shows always seem like industry-fueled propaganda to me. Sometimes I’ll watch for musical performances but otherwise I don’t care at all and am so surprised this tradition carries on. Art is subjective. Word of mouth has been a more reliable predictor for me than these events that put famous people on a pedestal. Ok bed time.
