Not even Phoenix was enough to save Joker‘s screenplay, and hearing him deliver that trash dialogue made me cringe so hard.
I thought the host-less style really worked well last year, but this year felt like a giant mess. Someone mentioned though, and I agree, I liked that they used to give you small clips and intros throughout the night of the films up for BP, this year there was none of that. Other than that really enjoyed this year's production. There was no annoying Jimmy Kimmel appearances either which is always a huge plus as far as this viewer is concerned.
worst parts of the broadcast were (IMO easily) Steve Martin/Chris Rock, and Kristen Wigg/Maya Rudolph. Even Eminem's random drop by was better than those bits which both began to make me physically cringe.
i'm still so confused by the eminem appearance. was it possibly a publicity boost due to him having released a new album and otherwise getting absolutely no commercial attention anymore?
Next year just have a voice announcing presenters and get the show done in 3 hours. They could’ve done that last night if they had cut the extraneous musical numbers and the over-long bad comedy bits during the category intros. They don't get to complain about the show running too long and then do that sort of dumb stuff every year.
Dune will get a nod in Visual Effects, maybe cinematography and maybe Original Score, and nothing else.
I stopped reading the Bong/Weinstein tweet because I haven't seen Snowpiercer yet, but God, what an asshole.
The weird thing about that guy's rant is that Parasite wasn't some obscure film. It was pretty widely praised. Even video game websites like IGN were calling it the best movie of the year. This isn't like La Flor winning.
