Yeah I knew it when she looked and paused because she clearly knew she was about to announce a historic win on live television. She knew what she had in her hands.
The Best Director winner list is weirdly really diverse. Of the past 10, Mexicans have won it 5 times, and an American/Brit have only won twice
I could talk about how Uncut Gems and The Lighthouse got completely snubbed and other picks I vehemently disagree with but PARASITE FUCKING WON This is monumental
Bong's best director speech turned Martin Scorsese appreciation speech was my favorite thing I've watched on TV this year
Ugggghhh. I forgot. A well deserved win (Even if I’ll argue it should have gone to the snubbed “Dolemite.”)
When was the last time an anime film won an Oscar? Spirited Away? I wonder if people will start paying attention to other Asian countries' films after all this Parasite recognition.
Can’t confirm it myself but I saw someone say it’s the first film to win both BP and the Palme D’Or since “Marty” in 1955
I really liked this Oscars all around, super fucking happy for Parasite and I guess it's time to be insulted now but I'm glad Phoenix finally has an Oscar too, he's long overdue and I personally thought his performance was more than deserving
so since it’s only 8 years away, how ridiculous do y’all think the ceremony for the 100th oscars will be?
Very happy with this year all around. Incredibly happy and psyched for Parasite - all four of its wins are justified. In general throughout the night, nothing really won that I'm SUPER rolling my eyes at.
I'm gonna pretend they're making up for completely overlooking Joaquin's performance in You Were Never Really Here. Also wish Little Women won more. Otherwise pretty satisfied with the outcome of this year's Oscar's. The ceremony itself was pretty terrible, though. The bits and performances were mostly boring and there were too many unnecessary presenters and montages.
Really my only issue with the winners last night was JP over Driver, and The Irishman getting nothing. The Irishman didn’t win anything correct?
Pretty good, pretty pretty pretty good Only thing not good was edge of democracy not winning but that category was stacked so it's not too bad.
JP getting an Oscar is great, he is long overdue, I'm just miffed that it had to be for this nothing film. Sure he may have been good to great in it, but any form of validation that this film is a worthy piece of 'art' just annoys the shit out of me.
