Caught both the animated and live action shorts on Sunday. My favorite of the animated shorts was also Memorable. Very emotional and really well done animations. I could also see Kitbull or Hair Love winning though because of how touching they are. As far as the live action shorts, I enjoyed most of them. A Sister was probably my favorite but I could actually see Saria winning. I feel like that one is right up the Academy's alley given that it's based on true events and has an important message attached to it.
Yeah, I think Saria will win. I missed A Sister and Brotherhood when I watched the Live Action ones in the theater but I was able to watch A Sister online yesterday (had to use a VPN since it's on YouTube but not in the US) and thought it was pretty good. I still need to watch Brotherhood, but I think I like Saria or Nafta Football Club the best. Hair Love was honestly my least favorite of the animated ones, but I'm typically drawn to "less traditional" forms of animation so maybe that's why I preferred the others.
Yeah I'm less sure on the animated shorts because I don't know what they're judging. Is it the story? Is it the animation style? A bit of both? For me, that's why Memorable would get my vote because I think it's incredibly strong on both fronts.
It's always a crap shoot. I think Kitbull might have a chance since it's "touching" and everyone loves animals, but I feel like the animation was pretty standard. Memorable by far had the most impressive animation in my opinion, and still hit that emotional note too.
I'm far from someone who hated Joker, or is upset about its place in this years conversation, but WOW, what a truly wild take.
Just a thought since Billie Eilish is performing, someone mentioned it'll be the new James Bond theme and now I'm thinking I wouldn't be surprised since No Time To Die will be the 25th Bond film and they'll do a montage about the franchise and highlight its lasting impact on the industry and pop culture, then maybe bring all the living Bonds together on stage (Connery, Lazenby, Dalton, Brosnan, Craig)
Really thought this song should've been nominated. Feels like it wasn't campaigned enough for or not enough people knew it existed. This is so good lol.
I think you can watch in on Amazon for $3.99 excited to watch that. hopefully I can carve out time this weekend
First year I’ve seen all the BP noms Great: Parasite Marriage Story The Irishman OUATIH Little Women Alright: 1917 Ford v Ferrari Bad: Joker Jojo Rabbit
Saw Parasite last night thanks to my new Regal pass. fantastic. Seeing 1917 on Sunday. Only one of the BP i won't have seen in time is Little Women because my sister went without me haha. but i got close to them all for once.
I looked again and actually the Les Miserables for rent on Amazon looks like it might be a short. It's confusing because the art matches the film (not sure if the film was maybe based off the short?!?!)
