Yeah... it feels very gross to witness all of this go down. Clearly Alexis has a lot of trauma and I truly hope they are able to heal and move on. That's about all I really know to say.
At the end of Alexis's thread she tagged several bands and people she trusted, kind of asking them to "help Ryland change for the better", and most of them (Jamie Coletta, Prince Daddy, Pool Kids) have liked Ryland's statement but not hers.
Don't really think I feel comfortable continuing to support this band. Seems like there was fault on both sides but I'll wait and see how this develops. This sucks as they made one of my favourite albums of the year but I know what I can tolerate and it's not this.
Very icky, but when literally everyone who knows them is supporting Ryland and not Alexis, it seems relatively clear cut to me.
Alexis removed all followers + tweets and went private with this message in the bio It also seems like a 4th person came out last night with allegations against Alexis but they have went private.
I am just so confused and don't know what to think about any of this at this point. The fact that Alexis was abusive to other people doesn't negate the fact that Ryland was potentially abusive to Alexis as well. And Alexis hasn't actually issued a retraction of what was said about Ryland. Extremely tough situation to navigate here.
I mean I’m not going to say Ryland definitely isn’t a piece of shit but I personally feel like if he were terrible we would be reading more accounts from people about him but instead we are seeing more accounts of Alexis being a bad person and many of their peers siding with Ryland. It seems fairly clear cut whose side is probably more accurate. That being said, I hope Alexis gets any and all help she needs in regards to the trauma she has dealt with.
I mean, even just reading Alexis’ initial posts before any responses came out, I felt like I was reading the words of someone who’s very manipulative. have had a fair amount of personal experience with ppl who are good at manipulative language and it set off all the alarm bells for me. and the sheer amount of people who have come out and stated they either have had bad/abusive/manipulative experiences with her, or bore witness to such behaviors, is pretty staggering. not to mention the way she dredged up and/or outright weaponized other ppl’s traumas is objectively not cool. unless someone comes out to either corroborate her claims or make allegations of their own, I don’t think this is all that difficult to navigate.
Uh I mean my show was cancelled because people Mom Jeans touring party tested positive. Shouldn't this shut this tour down? I dunno. As for the relationship stuff, I tried to understand it and I don't. Someone does something illegal, torturous, underage crap that's going to really bother me as in ending my fandom. Someone in a mutually bad relationship, that's really lowering the bar. I'm not jumping in the middle of every relationship that every artist of bands I like have.
Tours don’t have to shut down altogether if someone tests positive. If the person who is positive self isolated and the rest of the crew postpone shows while constantly testing to ensure they are negative, it’s not necessary to cancel a whole tour.
Apparently save face is already kind of screwed financially because of the other canceled shows too. Sucks this is the reality we live in but I guess it's better than no shows at all. I agree as long as they're all testing regularly and acting responsibly you can't just cancel the tour.
Anyone going to the KC show tonight? I’m going to STL tomorrow and wanted to check on set times (hoping to avoid Save Face)
Off Broadway got back to me with set times for anyone curious: 6:30 Doors 7:30 Young Animals (Local) 8:10 Pool Kids 9:00 Save Face 10:30 Gami Might be different for KC tonight since I saw shows over at 11:00 instead of 11:30, but looks like Gami has ~an hour set. Kind of a bummer considering they’re touring on ~3 albums but I get it!!!
Yeah, I was at the KC show and thankfully Origami Angel went on much sooner than 10:30. They went on around 9:00. Semi-spoiler about their set: It was really fun but their set wasn’t too long. I think that all of their songs are in such a high register for Ryland’s voice that it isn’t feasible to do a long set. My voice is fucked from singing along to just parts of songs so I can’t imagine how his voice feels. It seemed like it was harder for him to hit the high parts by the end. Also, I had never checked out Save Face before I saw them tonight. I just searched them up on here to see what all you guys were saying about them. I wasn’t expecting to find out that he’s a shitbag and abuser. I’m glad I didn’t get any of their merch.
I know hes still recovering from covid, he mentioned during their show the other day that performing is tough on him rn
Checking all the bands out before TWY show next weekend, and this is easily my favorite. Does anyone remember Socratic? This dude sounds so much like the lead singer of that band.
