I feel like this album isn’t 20 songs long so much as 48 sections long. I don’t always know where one song ends and another begins. Kind of mixtape-y in that way.
I love that about it. The songs work on their own but also really work as a cohesive piece. They had some of that on Somewhere City, particularly the start of Doctor Whomst i think.
I enjoy this record, but I don't think it's my favorite album of the year. The Julien Baker record is still my favorite of the year so far. This is definitely top 10 for me, probably top 5.
It's a 50 minute album... I think the songs benefit from being short and wanting to come back to it. If it were 12 songs and longer well I'd still love it, but I don't think it's as lasting. I have a hard time thinking anyone who listens to "scene" type music does anything but go "fuck yea" when any of these songs pop on. It's a direction I wanted and thought this genre would go around the time of Midtown, Brand New, Starting Line, Say Anything, New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, Gatsby's all looking for their next new sounds but they most of them just got dark and angry, not to say a few masterpieces didn't come from that tho. But on Mother's Day. "Motherfuckin Gami Gang!" I still need much more time to pick my five favs but... Mach Bike, Neutrogena Spektor, Kno u, trust, Batman, gg are good. lol, need more time.
My record has been in “shipment received, package acceptance pending” for a week now. Let’s go already sheesh
I got my first press black and white yesterday but I ordered a second press because I wanted the somewhere city variant haha
Hadn't listened to this band before and thought I'd give a few songs a shot, because I saw it was like top 10 on Rate Your Music. It seems to have already now fallen down to 50-60 range, which is fine I don't care about the rankings on that site I was just seeing if there were any interesting new albums I'd missed. A couple of songs in and I was hooked. Listened to the whole thing and loved it. Felt like it was over in half an hour. Told my friends who are into this music immediately. Amazing record!
Been swapping back and forth between this and new Stars Hollow on a loop, feel like it'll be that way for a while.
Adding myself to the list of people who have this on repeat. Side note, I listened to Somewhere City again while longboarding the other day and while I love it, Game Gang is better.
Yep yep yep. Eventually I'll go back and listen to their older material, but its gonna be a while before I'm prised off this one.
