The second half of Spoons Rattling gets me every time. I love the little heavy parts they included on this album. I stand by my Reliant K comparison too with some of the vocal melodies and song titles
I’ve never heard of this band until now and I’m about half way through this album. And now I’m in this thread so I guess I like them!
Would love a list of all the voice clips. There are some that are hitting me from my childhood but I can't quite place them.
I think it breaks pretty cleanly at Greenbelt Station if you want to do so (start 'album 2' at Bossa Nova Corps)
i mean yeah i agree. i almost wish they had actually done that, though. i think i would enjoy the full thing more if it was released in two parts rather than all at once
came in here to see if anyone else thought this reminded them of Reliant K. It reminds me of that mixed with man overboard.
100% hear the Relient K comparisons. Also, it really reminds me of the album Big Bucks by Lobby Boxer, which is criminally underrated. Highly recommend that record if you're digging this.
Fourth listen and yep this is almost guaranteed my AOTY. Considering Somewhere City was my joint top AOTY in 2019, this band are becoming one of my favourites so quickly.
this feels like the perfect album to be doing something to, like whether that’s chores, running, whatever - i think if you sit down and focus and listen it’s probably too long, but any other scenario and it’s just complete bliss front to back. i’m so glad for this and nil, two total pure fun albums, absolute rays of light in such a shit year
After a few more listens, I stand by my hunch upon first listen. It's fantastic, but Somwhere City definitely does more with less and I think this would have hit harder split into two albums. This kind of sound, especially with the neat segues, isn't meant to go for nearly an hour.
Yeah short and concise albums are great but I love a substantial album you can really sink your teeth into. I don't think the length here detracts from it at all.
