Dirty mirror selfie feels like it was written 10 minutes after fruit wine and after they kind of figured out what they wanted to sound to be. The background vocals fucking rip. I love the hard-core style chugging and breakdown as well. Blue feels a lot closer to traditional Gami stuff and I mean that in the best way possible
Blue is definitely my favorite of the three so far, the only one that has elicited that gami spark in me. Still very much looking forward to hearing the rest
Did I somehow miss that Ryland has a bulge/growth on his cheek for the past five years I’ve been listening? Honestly never noticed before the mirror vid
Needs more listens and I am happy to oblige, but liking these better than Fruit Wine so far, especially the vocal melody in Dirty Mirror Selfie.
Really like both these songs. It’s pretty cool that they released two wildly different songs, one more riff based and one with a laid-back, loungey feel in much of it. Definitely prefer these to Fruit Wine.
Woke up with the chorus to Dirty stuck in my head, particularly the octave vocals and riffing of “it was something evil” and especially the oozin ahs after that through the end of the chorus. Fuck, I love that those guys lean into that melody component. MORE BANDS NEED OOZIN AHHS.
Seems like this could be sonically tight like Somewhere City/Brightest Days, while exploring some wider range like Gami Gang. Underrated how well Gami Gang runs as a full record
Excited about this! I really like Somewhere City & Gami Gang, but I really felt like they hit a real stride with Brightest Days. Ordered the SmartPunk variant yesterday.
lol. lmfao even. This album is like Set Your Goals and Relient K had a baby and it was raised on my absolutepunk reviews. (but Yip still makes things sound like someone eq’d this to be all treble all the time)
I think I saw you say The Brightest Days was their best so far which I'd agree with so how does this measure up?
