The Somewhere City songs were actually the ones that went the hardest when I first saw them. Came in to the show cold (they were openers) and they began with Dr. Whomst. Face was fucking melted.
Yeah, the crowd went nuts for the Somewhere City songs. They were just so impressive generally though, and Ryland looked like he was having a blast all the way through which makes a difference.
Yeah Somewhere City is my least favourite because I missed it when it dropped and they blew up. I got on board with GG and that is one of my absolute favourite albums now. But live the Somewhere City songs still get the best reaction, the day oners absolutely love that record.
GG being so eclectic probably makes it a little harder to play much from it live. Aside from Bossa Nova Corps, the tracks they do play (Self-Destruct, Noah Fence) are not that far away from the threads that tie the rest of the records together.
I don't think Self Destruct or The Title Track are any where close to their best. Dirty Mirror Selfie would probably be my pick, Feeling Not Found is up there, as is Few and Far Between and The Air Up Here. They have some great closers.
I think something that's great about this band is how much their stuff speaks to different people because out of all the songs mentioned I would only put Self Destruct as one of their best because I prefer their stuff like The Brightest Days, Bossa Nova Corps, Footloose Cannonball Brothers, Second Best Friend. But that makes the community pretty cool too. There is something for everyone.
