How have I not been aware there are some fellow Sheffield people in this place?!? Yeah it’s always frustrating travelling. @tomtom94 - sorry you’re not around for this one.
Saw them last night. Absolutely killer. 200 cap venue and they had the crowd going wild. Circle pits for every song, 2 walls of death, one idiot charged the stage and stole Ryland's mic to "sing" the "then everyone will see exactly why you mean the whole goddamm motherfuckin world to me-e yeah!" part. None of it was because of anything the band said, they just played and kept the banter pretty minimal. To answer your question I'm not an expert but Ryland had a splitter feeding different amps I'm pretty sure, creating different tones simultaneously. Someone in here will be able to confirm and/or explain much better. But they also had their own sound board instead of using the house one and that contributed a lot to the sound as well.
Saw them two nights ago in Melbourne, they sounded fantastic and the crowd energy was huge for a small show. Don’t agree with calls for them to add a bassist, they’ve made it pretty clear in interviews it’s just the two of them moving forward as well.
They basically have a synth player when live and that adds plenty. Songs sounded thick and beefy. Setlist was good, I'd have preferred a bit more Gami Gang and they only played 1 from TBD (Second Best Friend). But it was clear that Somewhere City remains their most beloved work so it made sense to lean into that.
Parker’s got a side project with a guy accused of rape. And he seems like a dick in general but that’s not as big of a deal

No interest in any of the lineup except for Gami so I’ll be skipping this one but it’s okay because they tour constantly
Going to the Sheffield show tomorrow night. Never got round to listening to this album last year but heard they’re good live and not many bands make the Sheffield stop on their UK tours these days so looking forward to not driving to Manchester, Leeds or Nottingham.
I couldn't believe it when I realised they were in Sheffiled while I'm on holiday. Enjoy it, hope it sells out and we get more
They were great last night, but that was exceptionally hot and sweaty. Yikes. Only slight disappointment for me is that I’ve never (yet) got into Somewhere City like I have the rest of their stuff and they played a lot from that, and hardly any of GG. But whatever, those songs sounded great live and I’ll dip back into it. All wrapped up by 10:30 too, which as a Dad of two young kids was nice!
I have @awakeohsleeper sending me one of the Polaroid rip shirts after the Sheffield show, because I can't make Dublin next week due to work commitments and not wanting to miss Bartees Strange in Manchester the previous night on the 25th. Really grateful to them because you just never know if stuff will make it online after tour.
Sorry you missed it but hope your holiday is fun for you. Such a great (and sweaty) show and this coming from someone who had only heard The Brightest Days. Definitely rectifying that in the next few days. Love finding out there are people on here in Sheffield. I’m in the same boat with a little one. Not having to drive was heaven! What I really appreciated is the diversity of their sound. So effortless in hopping from one genre to another - that’s one thing on the record, but to do that live. The musicianship to say it’s just two people was so tight and completely energetic. Absolutely blew me away and I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a performance from a band where I’m not familiar with 95% of their music on this level before. Happy to help and glad I have been able to!
