I'm in the middle of returning back to this show after a major break my girlfriend and I took after getting bored of the first few episodes of Season 3. We're back now, and Piper is still difficult to see on screen. Her storyline is so exhausting and incredibly uninteresting-- even the other inmates treat her with impatience or feigned enthusiasm-- almost like the show's writers themselves know they could do better but had to get through this part to do so. We're trudging through though, it sounds like the show greatly improves after S3 ends.
Piper gets way better later on imo. She gets weird for a season or two. She was hardly in this season.
Tonally, the show is all over the place this season. Still, it has so much heart and I really loved it by the time it was over. Far from perfect and felt more like a part 2 to last season, but I really liked how a lot of last season's storylines played out.
I'm about halfway through, and man is there some bad dialogue. I'm enjoying it enough but it's certainly shaping up to be one of my least favorite seasons.
its probably my favourite season. i could be not remembering how much i liked past seasons but i really enjoyed what this one did.
There are some lines that are just like CBS primetime comedy bad. "Isn't that, like, an oxyMormon or whatever?"
Yeah my biggest issue this season is the weird juxtaposition of punchline humor and the dark dramatic storylines, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me or anything.
For a show with so many interesting complex characters, it's INSANE that they insist on spending so much time on the two methheads every season.
Idk if I'll even get through this season. I took a break after I was halfway through the first episode. And I loved the first two seasons.
I kinda liked how Angie and Leanne were, for the most part, unapologetic villains this season. They're usually the R2D2 and C3PO of the cast.
This was an incredible season. Danielle Brooks is amazing. I knew they'd cliffhang, but that final minute was beautiful and now I'm going to spend a year haunted and worrying.
The amount of character-writing groundwork the writers have done throughout the seasons really made for some deep investment in some of the core plots this time around. It really paid off in interesting ways for me, and the final scene really raised the stakes on arguably the eight main characters Alex, Piper, Red, Taystee, Black Cindy, Suzanne, Nicky, Mendoza. I'm 900% sure at least one of them is dying in the opening moments of next season -- (my guess is Alex because of the engagement and this is "Piper's Story" (except it's not)). There's a rumor that they're trying to slim down the ensemble number, which the two buses seems to suggest is happening. But there's too much invested Flaca/Maritza, Nicholls/Lorna, Angie/Leann (sigh), Boo, and obviously a few others for me to think they remain out of the picture for too long. I'm also curious where Maria ends up. And I don't really like what Pennsatucky is doing, but I understand all of her motivations and thoughts. I'm also really invested in how they handle the guard trauma next season. Will they be back? How will the prisoner/guard dynamic play out now that they've each played the roll of the abuser at worst, the willfully ignorant at best? Will we see forgiveness from both sides? Or an upping of the cruelty as revenge? Where does Caputo, who is so easy to hate but is also the only voice these women seem to have for them on the side of the establishment, go from here? I can't see him keeping his job, but he's got to be instrumental in whatever comes next because of his knowledge of the inmates?
Great finale but ugh at that ending. The worst kind of cliffhanger. Spend all season building up to a moment and then cut away just before the climax.
Finished last night and agree that I hate not having closure. The end of the season 2 finale was the best one
In the context of the season plot line it was pointless but I enjoyed it as a standalone episode. Also LOL'd at CERT getting the numbers wrong. They said 10 were missing but in fact the viewers know of 12. They don't know that Pennsatucky and the older Chinese lady are missing as well. I get why they said 10 (in the bunker, but still come on). Crazy how they get Piscatella from a hated to character to one you are "sad" that dies eventually since he shows a level of remorse for what he did. Overall I enjoyed the season. Love the flashbacks as always. I kinda want Piper's story to end. I fucking couldn't stand the story about the can of corn
I wasn't sad about Piscatella at all lol. Was an abusive douche, showed a brief moment of clarity, and then approached officers in riot gear by appearing around a corner real fast and yelling "HEY!". Back half of the season killed all qualms I had. Great season and I'm glad nothing happened to Alex or Piper. (Yet).
I have a question regarding the ending, so I'm going to spoiler the whole thing. Why am I supposed to feel so much tension about the officers approaching the pool hideout? Is it because they assume that's where the stolen gun is? It just seems weird after seeing everyone else get handled roughly throughout the prison, but getting out without any fatalities and seemingly no intent on the part of the police to kill anyone: even the biggest ass on the squad truly believed that. I mean, even the methlords were handled civilly and they lit the goddamn guard's nest on fire! I just don't know why I should expect an outcome other than everyone walking out fine, especially given they're all lined up with their hands in the air. Unless Frieda goes rogue and points the gun at them or something. Idk. Felt off.
