A lot of people will say that Sunshine is great until the Pinbacker part but it is sort of like saying that the football team was winning for three quarters. It is awful, yes, but the thing is that it becomes clear that they didn't know where else to go with the movie. How many colossal mistakes can the team make? It also beats you over the head with that song to tell you when to feel emotion.
yeah, I wouldn't argue that you're wrong necessarily, but that sorta plays into why I think of it more as a deeply flawed movie vs ⅔ of a good movie, if that makes any sense
I do remember Danny at the time saying he didn't have nearly the budget he wanted for the film, so not sure if that played into any script changes or not.
Update: I watched The French Connection and Hit Man instead. Both good movies. The jury is still out on Sunshine.
The French Connection has been on my list for too long to ignore the opportunity. Then Hit Man just seemed like a fun movie afterward to cleanse the palate after Gene Hackman’s fantastic dirt bag performance. I didn’t fully realize Hit Man would also kind of be a dirty cop movie too lol
I mean, it was a pretty meh explosion for what is supposed to be an atomic bomb blast imo. Doesn’t take away from the movie though.
Y'all brought it back up and even brought information defending our claim that it's a mediocre explosion. This conversation doesn't have to happen again.
I like scores. It’s no coincidence that my top 5 films have my top 5 scores. Oppenheimer is one of those 5
