This is probably Nolan's best film. It is still a little too slick and, despite being 3 hours, doesn't let enough of the scenes breathe. However, it is surprisingly adult in giving Oppenheimer space to contemplate the long-term impact of his actions and where the technology will go moving forward. It shows a lot of restraint not to make us sit through the actual bombings themselves.
The line where Iron Man asked who derailed his confirmation and the aide says something like "oh it was some hotshot named uh Kennedy or something" is like a lead weight. Anyone in their position would have known who John F. Kennedy was. He was a celebrity Senator of a political dynasty who was about to run for President. It was as bad as the Robin line in The Dark Knight Rises. We were talking about Zodiac in The Killer thread earlier, and this film is a helpful reminded of how good Downey can be when he wants.
Yeah tetra calling actors by their character from other work name is never not going to be annoying lol
I bought this on 4k as well. One of the rare non-criterion releases I’m adding to my collection in recent memory
With all the Black Friday deals it’s hard to pass up building my collection now - this is one of the few I’ll buy close to full price
Wow this was great. Surprisingly didn't drag for me at all despite its length. IMAX edition looked beautiful on my OLED. Love having it in full screen.
