From a songwriting and creativity perspective, I absolutely agree with this, but I throw on Wait For Love more often than Drift because Drift is such a damn downer vibe. Incredible album, but not one I'm putting on for a bike ride. I hope so much that they make more music or tour again, I got into them way too late but now they're easily one of my favorite bands. and nobody asked, but here's two more for good measure: Copeland (this one is really tough and I agree that the top 5 are so close in quality that any order makes sense) Ixora In Motion Eat Sleep Repeat You Are My Sunshine Beneath Medicine Tree Blushing The Dangerous Summer War Paint Reach for the Sun Mother Nature Golden Record Gravity The Dangerous Summer Coming Home
speaking of drift, erra records 1. erra 2. augment 3. impulse 4. cure 5. drift 6. neon 7. silence outlives the earth copeland tbh i could understand any ranking for, need to revisit that discog to see where it shakes out these days
Ixora In Motion Beneath Medicine Tree You Are My Sunshine Eat Sleep Repeat Blushing That’s a ranking that feels way more informed by my sentimental attachment to the albums than their quality because they’re all so good.
proof that ranking, one of the most reviled activities on this site, can be used for good please report back and if you're going in order, make sure you get to at least white pony if the adrenaline isn't quite your vibe!
tbh I really like this quarantined version of it and seeing all the different bands that folks are throwing out there but also I struggle to believe anyone listened to 33 Beach Boys albums critically enough to rank them all fairly
Eat Sleep Repeat You Are My Sunshine In Motion Ixora Beneath Medicine Tree Blushing Ixora has grown on me over the years and might be higher than In Motion, but you know, nostalgia.
Definitely going in order. Easier for me to connect with it when I feel like I can follow the career arc and hear how the sound evolves over time. Did Adrenaline this morning. I was expecting less, tbh. You can hear that the band has some maturing to do, but they already have a pretty defined sound out of the gate that is unmistakably Deftones. I don't think I'd heard anything from Adrenaline before, so I was half expecting some non-descript nu-metal. It was not that! "Bored," "Root," and "7 Words" were the standouts on first listen.
My dad LOVES the beach boys, and my dad NEVER gets rid of CDs but he tossed Summer in Paradise the fuck out
Koi No Yokan Ohms White Pony Saturday Night Wrist Diamond Eyes Private Music Deftones Around The Fur Adrenaline Gore
I agree with your first and last place. I need to do a discography run through of them too to know my actual placements (so many bands to rank, so little time)

The following is just personal, no one should listen to me, and I agree this is a bad opinion: Beach Boys have some incredibly high highs in their discography, some individual members are crazy talented, they are incredibly influential in songwriting and innovating studio recording techniques, no question. Their stories and history are definitely interesting and I've given most of their 60s/70s albums intentional listens. But, for me, even huge chunks of the "best" albums are pretty middling in terms of my personal music taste and therefore I don't plan to put myself through listening to them outside of the generally accepted best ones. However, if someone wants to rank their top 10 or whatever not-on-Pet-Sounds BB songs, I'd give it a shot.
to be fair i am a bigger beach boys fan than that for sure lol i have a pretty good handful of albums of theirs where i do not find anything middling. theyve even got like four or five of my favorite albums ever
Protest the Hero Fortress Volition Kezia Palimpsest Scurrilous Honestly the top three can be in any order depending on my mood. Last year Kezia was for sure my number one but this year I've been going back to Fortress and Volition more often. Probably in a few months Kezia will be on top again. Maybe I over played it? Still fucking adore all three as those three are 9/10s for me. I really should stop procrastinating and get to those pop punk bands....
