I think Around the Fur might be the most accessible/immediate like of them all tbh! I just got into them last summer.
saturday night wrist is fascinatingly one of those albums that never seems to place in the middle of those lol seems like it is always either top or bottom three
diamond eyes is like the exact opposite of what snw was and i feel like on that one it really just comes down to what you want out of your albums in general. i think its a little too sanded down and samey but some people look at wrist and think its too disparate and all over the place, and likewise you could also repackage both those things i used as peoples complaints to talk about why people like both of them so much. which i think rocks lol deftones really are a band where when i rank em im like "oh yeah this is just kinda what i like out of my records all around", and seeing the way those differentiate in my conversations with everyone rules. i used to kinda roll my eyes seeing their record ranked but i do think thats one that opens more doors beyond just thinking about deftones specifically
My addition to the Deftones discourse: White Pony s/t Private Music Diamond Eyes Ohms Koi No Yokan Around the Fur ________ (big gap) Saturday Night Wrist Gore Adrenaline
diamond eyes koi no yokan white pony ohms private music around the fur self titled gore saturday night wrist adrenaline no bad albums
Screw it let's do ETID too since someone asked. A little tougher to separate some of these. I see Gutter/Dirty/NJA as a trilogy, and Ex/FPU/Low Teens as another trilogy Hot Damn! Low Teens From Parts Unknown Radical Gutter Phenomenon Ex-Lives The Big Dirty New Junk Aesthetic Last Night in Town
etid would need a rejam of the discog for me to feel comfortable with because most of their stuff is around the same level of "better than any of their fuckin peers could come up with"
XTC: Oranges and Lemons Black Sea Skylarking Apple Venus Vol. 1 Nonsuch Drums and Wires English Settlement Mummer The Big Picture Go 2 White Music Apple Venus Vol. 2 Stephen Malkmus Mirror Traffic Sparkle Hard Wig Out at Jagbag's Pig Lib Stephen Malkmus Real Emotional Trash Kate Bush: The Dreaming Hounds of Love The Kick Inside Aerial 50 Words for Snow Never For Ever The Sensual World The Red Shoes Lionheart Bjork: Vespertine Homogenic Vulnicura Post Debut Selmasongs Biophilia Medulla Fossora Volta Utopia
I often think this as well. White Pony is the classic, Diamond Eyes is The One for me, and Private Music is the new classic giving them both a run for their money imo. That being said...Gore is hella underrated
I think Gore is kinda underrated too. I listen to it a lot. Maybe it should be higher on my list. they have so many great records it's hard.

Okay let me rephrase the Deftones question since we got so many replies and varying lists: What are the first/top Deftones songs that you heard that made you really connect with their music? Let's say keep it to 5 but feel free to provide context and reasoning behind your choices.
tbh regardless of ranking i kinda point everyone towards white pony to start, its pretty varied so it right off the bat will kinda let you know what you like more from them while having more direct songs than some of the later records. i do think all around their songs make more sense in the context of albums but for standalone songs: be quiet and drive digital bath minerva hole in the earth leathers
