I’m excited to see this but I think the heavy hitter is going to be Soul.

My thoughts exactly. This is a nice warmup for the real Pixar magic. I mean it's Pete Doctor.

lot of reviews seem to say that the last ten or so minutes are the peak of the film but everything preceding that is a bit more meager

in all further seriousness, i better not see more and more of these whispers (or louder) of pixar having lost its magic every time a new movie of theirs comes out, especially if it isn't immediately seen as one of their top-shelf releases

this is probably in my top third of pixar releases on first impression. maybe. top half undoubtedly.

Edit: just did a quick glance over/ranking of all 21 of their movies and this hit #10.

I thought this was okay. The stuff with the fairies and manticore dragged it down for me in the middle. And I thought Tom Holland's voice performance was kind of straining. Not top-tier Pixar, but it was fine.

Hmmm.....I'd say this. But I haven't seen "Monsters University" since it came out. They're both fine crowd-pleasers.
