Eight episodes for season two of the live action series https://movieweb.com/netflix-one-piece-season-2-episode-count-titles/
Finally jumped back into the anime and just got to Brook/Thriller Bark. Only roughly 780 or so episodes to go.
manga spoilers: imu being able to turn anyone, no matter how strong they are, into a literal evil monster is an incredibly busted power. nerf pls. also rip rocks :'(
at this point I guess the latter? the former would be interesting with the new wrinkles (taking his justified revenge) but I don't think Oda can write that complex of a villain
My theory is Luffy and the first one end up teaming up to defeat the other, and then sets the stage for one final battle between Luffy and Blackbeard for the one piece
Huge One Piece chapter 1164 spoilers: Okay so I'm speculating now that Davy D. Jones was the real name of Joyboy. Which makes me guess that, like Naruto, the climax of One Piece will be the Strawhats and Blackbeard pirates teaming up against the government, and then the final fight is those two fighting it out for who gets to decide what the future will look like -- that Blackbeard's understanding of history and freedom through the "lens" of the Davy family is different from the interpretation thay the Strawhats have when looking through the Joyboy "lens"
But it’s Rocks’ *understanding* that they are two separate people. What Rocks say could easily just be a matter of him being taught a historical narrative that isn’t entirely correct. And the way he talks about inheriting Davy’s will is the same way everyone talks about Joyboy It doesn’t make sense to me that there have actually been two main, equally dangerous historical enemies of the world government this entire time. Joyboy and the Will of D are pretty clearly interlinked — I don’t think Luffy and a bunch of other people who are more closely ideologically-aligned with him would be literally biologically linked to Rocks/Blackbeard if Oda didn’t intend to show that they are cut from the same cloth
I was reading a theory that that they both represent the will of D, Joyboy being Dawn and Davy being Dusk. it's possible they could be the same person from different aspects/perspectives. but then you have to wonder if Rocks is asking imu which aspect they're more scared of, which is kind of an esoteric thing to bring up. I think Rocks' point was that the World Government has multiple enemies it can't fully stamp out, and Imu's desperation to do so betrays a kind of fear and weakness
the official translation lends weight to your theory, marx: rocks says "what" name scares Imu most, not who
Good catch. It very well could be Davy and Joyboy are the same, but they’re two different sides of history, as said earlier in the story (I think it was Vegapunk).
Man. The Kuma backstory was absolutely heartbreaking, and genuinely might be my favorite story in Anime/Manga.
At the time, I thought the same thing. But now we are in a flashback of a certain character and he’s one of my favorite One Piece characters now.
yeah it's funny, I read a Japanese critique of modern one piece where it's like, new island, strong enemy, flashback, power up, feast, repeat but the flashbacks have easily been the best part of each arc because Oda finally gets to tell the backstories he's been refining for 30 years
