What makes you say that? They seem genuine enough and their music really hasn't changed too much (overly dramatic Panic! clone).
They went from neon shirts to My Chem-lite, then when the vampire trend died decided to become a pop band. That "Uncontainable" song is such a blatant rip of the new-school FOB Jock Jamz sound.
Ok..so they're smart enough to move past the trends. Music changes every day and if you're still stuck in 1 sound, chances are you'll just fade away. I'm not a fan of their music but I wouldn't call that fake. It's the same thing as saying The Beatles were fake for not being a clean-cut boy band their entire career.
Did the Beatles hop to new trends? They were anti-trendy, bringing sitars and other weird instruments in. Growing as a band is one thing, but continually changing your sound to reflect what's popular? Sorry, that's fake to me.
Changing your sound to reflect what's popular is done by A LOT of artists especially scene bands. They're just products of their environment. It sounds like you just don't like them, which is fine. Also, your definition of fake is completely off.
