generally agree except that i don't like that when i make my criticism of a movie like this or another film like say, black panther, it implies that i am saying that i wish it handles it's politics better, rather its just me making a criticism on its politics.

 

I think Sean Penn was really good, but in my heart of hearts I wanted Benicio Del Toro to win for Supporting Actor, even though I knew it was not going to happen

 

Penn deserved it. But also, fuck Sean Penn

 

Sean Penn deserves it for not showing up for the ceremony.

 

I know there are other examples of this throughout film history, but the amount of impact he had vs the amount of screentime was crazy

I didn't know who Jim Downey was when I first saw this but now those scenes are much richer.

Artists do not need to explain their art to you. It's up to you to make any connections to how that piece of art relates to your life and reality.

We need to make sure there is always a character in the scene telling us "hey this is wrong" when something problematic is depicted.

Guess Netflix is on to something by having characters reiterate the plot

 

the middle manager army guy who interrogated people in storage containers covered in plastic sheets was fucking terrifying

 

Not to give Netflix ideas but they could implement a plot recap button the shows the plot summary up to the current viewing time.
