Saw a take that this movie was just ripping off terminator 2 and was severely confused

 

I think they’re referring to the upcoming sequel where Bob sends Colonel Lockjaw back in time to protect Willa.

 

Tbh the leaked cgi footage where lockjaw is decked out in the t-1000 liquid metal alloy has me thinking the sequel could be even better

 

I assume he's referring to PTA emotionally abusing Fiona Apple

 

I guess if you think one person trying to kill a kid and another person trying to protect them is specific enough then it is the same movie.

 

Also pushed her out of a moving car, Sean Penn allegedly holding Madonna hostage, etc

 

Definitely an oversimplification, but this is why I really have no interest in hearing twitter grifters’ opinions on the politics of the movie.

 

You know they are in bad faith by the timing. It didn't happen when it came out, it didn't happen when it came out on VOD, it didn't happen when it dominated the critics' lists. It is Oscar voting right now so people want to try and move the needle.

maybe already posted, but i enjoyed this a lot. i definitely think PTA's marriage to Maya Rudolph, as well as the bank bailouts/the obama era are clear touchstones of this flick

 

Rewatching this. The best of the year and maybe the decade so far. The amount of revolution in the face of a fascist regime in this almost feels like science fiction.

 

Its based on a book depicting happening in the 60s when America had established active revolutionary groups. The current admins only been in a year and if they get to cancel elections with no acts of domestic terrorism occurring on the way I would be surprised

also not to youtube plot hole but its crazy for leo to stay in America with Willa

Late to the party but I finally watched this and holy cow is it awesome.

seeing this in 70mm next Saturday in NYC. hype.

That one shot of Willa getting into the bounty hunter’s car to escape the militia isn’t acknowledged enough. She can’t close the door because her hands are tied, so it swings shut with the camera attached as she accelerates, and the score for the final hill chase scene starts. Looks cool as hell

 

Just watched Moonlight for the first time and there’s a similar camera-on-closing-door shot

 

It is very common in Anderson films.

 

I really need to watch this again

 

The shot of Barry closing the door like that in Punch-Drunk Love after beating up the goons is one of the best parts of that movie.
