Licorice Pizza had its moments but it’s the only film of his I didn’t like very much. I still wouldn’t call it bad but maybe weak for him

LP was my favorite film of the year it came out. Love that one a lot.

 

His last 3 are great and Inherent Vice is very underrated. It might be in my top 3 of his at this point.

 

Its interesting how his last 3 have resonated with people, it seems everyone has a different fav and one that didn't click with them.

It’s almost like people can prefer different things.

 

My point is theres is a much firmer consensus on all his films from the Master backwards

4. punch drunk love
5. licorice pizza
6. phantom thread
7. magnolia
8. inherent vice
9. hard eight

 

They all “click”, they just aren’t as monumental as the ones that came before them. He seemed to be building and building and building and IV seemed lesser than, but almost intentionally so. Phantom Thread was more serious, but I might like it less than IV. LP was okay, kinda seems like the least substantial of his movies, looking back.

 

Did anyone else catch the new trailer before Superman?

wish there was almost anyone but leo in the lead tbh. I know he helps get stuff funded but there are so many more interesting actors out there. still excited but cautiously so.

He seems perfect for this role based on the trailer.

 

struggling to think of a recent (as in, last 20 years) movie other than Wolf of Wall Street he was actually perfect for rather than just the director's or bankroller's de facto pick.

also, y'know, personally I don't really want to think about the "p*ssy posse" every time I go to the movies.

Regardless, this is the director actor team up nearly 30 years in the making. Hype

 

He was great in Killers of the Flower Moon and perfect in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Seem to remember The Revenant being great as well, but it's been a while
