Boogie Nights is pretty accessible. This is too, but there is a more pervasive oddness to it that might turn people off more than the porn/ sadness of Boogie Nights

Hooting and hollering in the theater like Avengers Endgame when Barry Egan says he has a love in his life

There were a lot of walkouts during The Master. His films are more mainstream than a lot of authors but there is a weirdness a lot of people won't tolerate.

I think The Master lost my girlfriend when Joaquin's character started imagining everyone naked.

The master and hereditary are the two all-time movies for me where their first trailer was so perfect and suggested a movie that I was so pumped to go see. And then the actual movie was different and totally not my vibes to a degree that I still pine for the movie the first trailers made me believe was out there..

Had only seen There Will Be Blood before this one, but just placed holds on Inherent Vice and Boogie Nights from the library.

I'm also about halfway through the book and excited to see how it translates to the screen.

Unless Marty Supreme blows everyone away, this seems like the consensus best American film of 2025.

I finally had a chance to watch this. I was a pretty major PTA fan back in the day, but honestly haven't been huge on his last few. Reading all of the hype and praise for months now really had me worried that this couldn't possibly live up to all of that hype or my own expectations.

I had nothing to worry about.

This movie is amazing. Easily one of the best movies I have seen in years. Absolutely top tier PTA for me. Incredible movie.

Now I have to try to get my wife to watch it with me.

Now that it's on HBO Max I am dreading the inevitable when I start hearing from people I know in real life come up to me and say "I didn't think it was that good" (which happens every holiday season when there's a movie out that I adored)
