This gag is part of why the queer kid being the rat sticks with me as an annoying choice. The bit with Bob asking about pronouns seems like the joke is obviously on Bob being out of touch. But, when you add in that gag, and the queer kid being the friend who breaks, it starts getting muddy to me.

Not nearly enough to ruin what’s one of my favorite movies of the year, of course. But, enough to make me side eye and be like, yeah, I dunno about those choices, dude.

Finally saw it last night, unbelievable movie. Easily my favorite PTA since blood, though I do like all of them.

Something I thought was interesting was how funny it was, but I was so stressed for so much of the movie that at a couple points I found myself one of the handful in the theater actually not laughing. I’m guessing it’s going to play more carefree funny when I see it again.

Vistavision was beautiful, I’ve seen most of the big 70mm releases in 70 but this was one of the times it really stuck out to me how perfectly bright and sharp the picture was. Grateful to have the Coolidge in Boston (Brookline).

The scene when the tracker started playing the melody while Willa was in the dance bathroom hit me incredibly hard, instant raising of the stakes and barely a moment with the foot off the gas from there til the end.

RE: the stress - when I left theater after my first viewing I said it approached the stress levels of Uncut Gems at certain points given how wobbly things felt at times.

  5. Oh I found this way more stressful than Uncut Gems haha - the score alone takes it, Greenwood absolutely freaked this

Uncut Gems was way more stressful to me. I left the theater sweating after seeing that.

Uncut Gems was stressful, not fun, and left me feeling existentially drained.

Both films rule but I didn't find this stressful in the same way at all as Uncut Gems.

Fiction has affected me emotionally but I can't say I've ever been stressed out watching something before. Interesting.

Uncut Gems, Anora, and this feel like a wave of a particular high pace and chaotic era of film. Hard to catch a breath in any of them.

Can’t imagine watching good times and not being stressed out.

I thought anora was trying way too hard to hit the same notes as uncut gems

Everyone’s chill in the theater until they read about someone having to pee in the middle of a movie.

  14. Good Time was very stressful. Mentioned it before but Shiva Baby got me pretty bad too. Honestly have never felt that way about Uncut Gems

  16. [performatively shaking my head every 20 minutes of Uncut Gems]: hmph. yeah this is just another day in the life for me

No I really think it’s mostly just because I didn’t really like Howard and cared less what happened to him with every careless decision. Good Time at least had Nick to feel sympathetic towards as he’s being repeatedly taken advantage of, in the end I just wanted him to be okay

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

good. she had the most screentime and the whole movie revolves around her performance

  25. I think Pat is talking about the Rachel Sennott joint though. Mine was about Shiva, Baby. The incredibly stressful story of a very cold Bostonian infant. No one will give him a jacket!
