Anecdotal but there were a lot more people in the theater this morning than last week.

 

The first time I saw the movie I slept through Penn's first meeting with the KKK so I didn't really know the context when the hitman is called to the Reagan house with the underground lair. It sort of made Penn's survival of the gunshot and accident seem like a needless extension, but with the added context it really colors it in more and makes Penn's arc almost sort of darkly tragic. Someone before mentioned the end of Burn After Reading, but here there isn't even an overarching body to gasp at the incompetence and abuse of power.

There is just so much going on here that you could have doubled the length of the film just exploring little things like the other revolutionaries (blink and you miss Avon Barksdale), the nuns, the length and reach of the Christmas Adventurers Club, and DiCaprio's life trying to get the band back together in the sanctuary city. Did he really think he could keep a teenage girl in the complete dark when regular families can't keep them from far more salacious things?

This is a true epic. I really doubt he does anything so expansive again, but like he has so many times he has shown us that he can do it if he wants to.

Once you are in the Christmas Adventurers Club, what are the perks? It seems semi-secretive, and obviously a colonel can't be openly in a white nationalist club.

 

You are objectively a better person than everyone else…isn’t that enough??
