I think it was meant to be kept short so as to not give you enough time to be certain of the nature of the incident, one way or another. Gives you enough info to guess how she died/was killed and why Cliff might be motivated to do it.

He can be the de facto protagonist of the movie and not be a good person. And again, as has been said numerous times in this thread, we don’t definitively know that he killed his wife at all, let alone whether he did it intentionally or accidentally.

We don’t. She could’ve left him and disappeared from the Hollywood scene entirely and people just assumed she died.

But even assuming she is dead, we don’t know how she died at all. She could have drunkenly fallen off the boat and drowned for all we know. As we’ve been saying, the ambiguity is intentional and part of the point.

And this is Tarantino, if he wanted us to definitely know Cliff killed her he would’ve shown it.

Dalton was firing him because of money, so if we assume his career got a second wind due to Tate and Polanski then he probably sticks with the guy who saved his life. It is sort of a fairy tale quality; they all lived happily ever after.

I know it's REALLLLLYYYY early but...I can completely foresee a future where DiCaprio wins his second Oscar for this. Goes from "never awarded" to "very awarded."

I didn’t think Leo did anything too special, but I can see them submitting Pitt as “Supporting Actor” even though he’s essentially a lead and taking it for the Ranch scene.

Solid write up about the fact vs fiction in the film:

Was Bruce Lee that cocky? We fact-check Quentin Tarantino's 'Once Upon A Time in Hollywood'

The Bruce v. Cliff scene in particular is getting some strong reactions online, possibly by design, resulting in discomfort for many fans anticipating a more positive and truthful homage. Ultimately it's also possible Tarantino might be saying saying something more complex about the game of perceptions played between filmmakers and audiences during the watching of a film than initial reactions online might suggest.

You’re the first person I’ve seen say that about Leo.

very tired of the chatter over the Bruce Lee scene, QT isn't saying Lee was like that at all, not the point of the scene whatsoever and clearly from Pitt's characters memory/perception of reality. agreed with an earlier post I can't find right now about twitter being insufferable when discussing this film

It is literally saying that Cliff thinks he is so tough he even beat up Bruce Lee. It is more of an acknowledgement of his fame as a martial artist than anything else. It is like having a character beat LeBron James in basketball.

It is early but honestly, I don't foresee any acting Oscar nominations for this. Perhaps screenplay, editing, cinematography.

Obviously hard to know how the rest of the year plays out, but I can see Pitt and Robie getting supporting noms. Pitt is really co-lead, but I think this will be like what they did with running Waltz as supporting in Django.

I’m not as in love with this movie as most people seem to be, but even putting that aside there wasn’t much that really grabbed me about Leo in this.

I really liked the Lancer scene where he keeps forgetting his lines and slips in and out of character, and the trailer freak out was good. I think for me the problem is that most of his performance is him shooting a western, which forces me to think about his Django performance which is my favorite thing Leo has done and compare the two.

For me it was that Leo playing an insecure actor having a midlife crisis isn't really a stretch

Hmm Leo IRL can literally do any movie/project/anything he wants I’m not sure I see that as very similar to Dalton

Making a joke about him being an “insecure actor having a midlife crisis” doesn’t really have anything to do with his career success. It’s not like @iCarly Rae Jepsen said Leo is a “washed up actor in a career slump” lol.

Bradley and Leo are rich hot movie stars but they both really wanted that Oscar, obviously Dalton is more typecast and Leo isn't a relic

Interesting. I'm gonna hold this here right now and say that I think Leo is a LOCK for a nomination. People have been turned away from Academy screenings cause they're sold out and it's a movie about Hollywood.
