Quentin Tarantino Is Ditching Weinstein for Sony

Vanity Fair with some details on how the battle between studios progressed, including an early synopsis:

Set in Los Angeles in the summer of 1969, Tarantino’s upcoming movie, according to a source who read the script, focuses on a male TV actor who’s had one hit series and his looking for a way to get into the film business. His sidekick — who’s also his stunt double — is looking for the same thing. The horrific murder of Sharon Tate and four of her friends by Charles Manson’s cult of followers serves as a backdrop to the main story.

Can’t wait for the Manson family to exclusively use Sony record players

Sounds like it’s gonna be what I thought it was, like Spike Lee’s Summer of Sam

Personally I've always thought Django and Basterds were his weakest, but they're still fantastic films. I honestly don't think Tarantino has put out an even average film.

Glad to see him making a movie in a contemporary setting again. Loved Basterds and liked Django, but H8ful left a bad taste in my mouth and despite his attempts to be uncompromising in bringing his vision to the screen, I didn't find it all that insightful regarding the subjects it was exploring/commenting on so it left me feeling kinda empty.

But I'm digging premise of this new film, based on the scraps of info so far. If nothing else the late 60's n LA is a time/place that might bring the best out of his dialogue, so looking forward to seeing how it pans out.

That’s actually sooner than expected/still way too far away. I’ll probably die before that

I figured awards season next year, it's the 50th anniversary of the Tate/LaBianca murders such a troll move

    This seems... very odd

I am 1000% behind Tarantino doing a space opera

But Tarantino doing star trek... feels like all that will do is restrict him

I doubt it happens. Tarantino has seen how directors have been treated on these mega-franchises, even directors with a much more mainstream style than him.

I could see him getting a Story By credit. I would be shocked if he actually writes the screen play, I can't imagine a world where he actually directs
