The Avril thing was so dumb because Butch cleared the Hey Mickey sample and Luke just decided to steal for no apparent reason
That tweet says they got 50% writers credit....no way in hell that's true! I wish I still had my Harry Fox credentials so I could check, but I'm still putting my money on them having a small percentage.
this ... isn't really true. it's more that there are always extremely craven people that will take any opportunity to bend the law in any way that they can when it comes to art.
So 3 tracks on her album have now had songwriting credits given to others, interesting. Love when artists pull from influences without it being heavy-handed or come off sounding like a cover act. Billie did an excellent job pulling in a Nine Inch Nails vibe on "Oxytocin" without making it too obvious.
Decided to spin this record again this morning. It’s going to be one of my summer albums for quite a few years.
on a side note, I went to see if spotify has the updated credits on good 4 u (it doesn't) but I noticed for the first time they are putting together songwriter pages, kinda cool Daniel Nigro is a songwriter
I was shocked to find out the songwriter of “Livin La Vida Loca” gets the majority of royalties from “Thong Song” because Sisqo didn’t clear the one line he mentions it.
Here's a pretty good video on the Good 4 U/Misery Business issue from a few months ago: Basically his conclusion is that they're really not the same but because of the shared harmony, as pretty straightforward pop-rock tunes, they're bound to share some melodic elements.
I’m still amazed how this became an issue in the first place. I have at least 20 pop punk songs in my library that sound more similar than Good 4 U and MB.
Late to the party I know, but seeing as my dogs decided 5:00 AM was a great time to be awake I ended up listening to this full album this morning and honestly this is really great. Coming from someone who has been playing music (pretty mediocrely) since I was 12-13 (32 now haha), I am completely blown away by how good this is coming from someone who is only 18 years old - I would've killed to be writing stuff this good at her age. Yes, a lot of it feels like it's written by a 17-18 year old but damn she definitely captures that first love/first loss thing very well.
There are entire band's catalogs on Hopeless and Fearless Records that should be paying royalties with the "new" standards
I hope she releases traitor for the fall. I need the crisp fall air and leaves around me while I'm belting out "YOU BETRAAAAAYED ME"
Despite my target app telling me my local one no longer sells this on vinyl, they had one copy left and I snagged it. it sounds slightly sped up, I think? But not as offensively bad as their folklore variant, which I will probably never listen to again lol. Only listened to side A, but there were no wild pops or anything. I was surprised, and fully ready to get swindled by target again
Had no idea their folklore variant had this issue. That’s wild haha. I assume it’s pitched up a little too then? Or just sped up?
