Nevermind that the entire history of music up to this point is predicated on lifting little bits and pieces from things you like. The Beatles were voracious listeners. But imagine if The Everly Brothers, Little Richard, Smokey Robinson, Carl Perkins, etc. could have sued them. Nevermind where hard rock would be without Zeppelin, who were outright thieves. Good lord, people are morons.
Seems pretty clear that Hayley thinks her publisher has overstepped their bounds and wants people to know that. That original story is incredibly obnoxious and it doesn’t seem like Hayley, a champion of females in the industry, would want to slight an 18 year old currently riding high in the industry. She’s not Courtney Love.
why do you find it "clear"? the only words she posted were "our publisher is wildin rn," a very open to interpretation group of words. clarity would be worthwhile here.
stuff like this has unfortunately been made “normal” for decades now. it isn’t going away anytime soon. lawyers shouldn’t be involved in art. it sucks ass.
The way I read it she meant this to mean "I can't believe my label did this". Can't really see another interpretation of it based on who Hayley is.
Idk I guess the word wildin is subjective but I would only use it to suggest someone is acting over the top personally, not rly a positive way. But yeah maybe she should've used a clearer word
I know it's hard for the internet to do, but this is one of those situations where Hayley deserves the BOTD because there's absolutely no reason to think she meant anything malicious by it
I think we can all agree that there's an easy way to be more publicly critical about it. I'd imagine she doesn't know exactly how to feel, especially considering Josh Farro is the other person getting paid off this change and she likely doesn't have 100% agency within this decision.
As ridiculous as it is to give them writing credits, who knows how much they were actually given. For all we know Hayley & Josh may only have like a 2% writers share. And also I don't know how anyone read Hayley's story and didn't take it as her pointing out how out of line her publishing company was for pursuing the claim.
I really hope you've never listened to music in your life, because if so..... you might be stealing from them in your drum fills.
Was literally just about to double post saying we're like 3 steps removed from some moron trying to get drum copyright laws changed
that was before he started saying homophobic shit publicly Josh Farro homophobic allegations prompt Hayley Williams to call out ex-Paramore bandmate
Right, but my point is that she already has joint credit with Josh on Misery Business no matter what. The tweet is saying "you think she would choose to have joint credit?!?!?" but it's not her picking to have newly joint credit with him... she already has it...
i think its just saying its obvious its out of her hands because its not like she would team up with josh to go get their writing credit or whatever /shrug
Took less than 24 hours for me to be completely over legal/copyright/stolen/whatever music discourse.
TIL that the suits for Gaye/Thicke and The Rubinoos/Lavigne cited reviews by Stephen Thomas Erlewine as evidence in the cases. Someone explain to me how a writer going “hey this kinda sounds like something” is factual evidence that works in a goddamn courtroom? Woof.
