I agree! I see it all the time when it comes to Billie. Like, Billie didn’t blow up overnight, she’s been growing her fanbase for years. The conversation is most of the times always directed at young women as well, like we are not capable of being more than a pretty face.

 

I've heard it a lot with Clairo too but these artists didn't just wake up one day and be hugely successful. They worked and worked at their artistry to earn that recognition. Sure, someone like Olivia and other Disney stars may have had a leg up due to having prior recognition or a huge corporation name behind part of their career, but that doesn't negate their work ethic at all.

As if the reason people like “Brutal” is because of the originality of the riff. Wait until you guys hear “Brain Stew”.

 

I mean, they literally used a sample of another song for “brutal.”

I don't understand why anyone would even have a problem with her using her established fame to promote her music? Like who wouldn't? I would. If you've got it take advantage of it, getting your music noticed is hard.

 

Also, how would she actually not .. use her fame? You can't make yourself unfamous

 

Yeah that too. Is she just not allowed to make music because she was already an actress? I don't get it.

 

Any famous actor or actress must go into solitary hiding for 5 years, change their name and appearance, and move to another country before they are allowed to have a music career

 

Also, it’s not like she was all that “famous” before this year. The High School Musical show was not exactly the cultural phenomenon that the original was.

 

This conversation is asinine.

 

And she sings in the show. So I’d argue that she has always been more of a singer than actress anyway.

 

The only good version of Brain Stew is the one with Godzilla roaring on it.

 

She also doesn't just sing in the show, she actually writes a bunch of the songs that she sings on the show.
