Was gonna bring up Ri probably easily topping all the names in this thread a couple hours ago but that’s the biggest “if” in the world haha We gotta get ANTI off the Billboard for a couple weeks to spook her camp a little bit
True but I feel like she lost a lot of steam after that last album. It had big songs but it didn't have a "Rolling in the Deep" to keep it on the radio as frequently.
I think "Hello" has a pretty big footprint in modern pop. But I agree it didn't have consistent hits like "21."
Hold up, ANTI is STILL on the charts 6 years later? Wow! Also, I think a lot of you are severely underestimating the force that Adele is. Her last album came out with only 5 weeks left in the year, and remained at number 1 for all five weeks. Pretty sure the first week it sold 4 million copies in the US, and the next few weeks its weekly sales continued to stay over a million. It has gone on to sell ELEVEN million copies in the US alone. Everyone and their grandma not only knows the name Adele, they buy her records. Think it'd be hard to find someone over the age of 35 who knows who Olivia is. Sour is gonna have huge sales, but no where close to what Adele is gonna do. I'd actually be surprised if its first week sales are better than Fearless Taylors Version.
I thought so — the last article I can find citing it is from August last year but I could swear I saw one much more recent than that that said it was still going
Old Town Road was #1 on the charts for NINETEEN weeks, with streaming numbers that absolutely dwarf Driver's License, and that album ended the year at 46 for the year. Streaming success and best-selling records aren't guaranteed to line up.
my sister has been texting me for weeks about what kind of turntable setup to get when sour drops. i wish this was a joke.
it was an EP that was 19 minutes long, which inherently limits the amount of songs that can be streamed from it. it's actually insane an 8 song 19 minute EP, where 2 of the songs are functionally the same, ended up in the top 50 at all
list of artists that could (not will) top olivia this year: adele, maybe billie beyonce rihanna drake that ... feels pretty exhaustive. taylor isn't doing it with this cottagecore stuff, which I admittedly like a ton
seems like a pretty good list, save for an out of left field new artist like Olivia, that probably covers the possibilities.
Opening for Dua would have been lateral at best as I believe SOUR will be bigger than Future Nostalgia
