Brutal is prob one of my favorite songs released this year. I was listening to it thinking smh girl I'm way past 17 and still feel this way so buckle up
Don’t underestimate the combination of heartbroken teenage girls and us thirty year olds jealous of their emotional clarity.
I'm curious...how come BTS is never in the conversation about high charting/selling artists? Their fanbase is massive but does that not translate to charts/sales?
Wasn't even planning on checking this album out but all the hype made me do it. I just remember a few months ago hearing Driver's License all over TikTok and really my thoughts were "it's a decent song but why is everyone so obsessed with it?" Needless to say, I absolutely love this. brutal is such a good opener. I may just have to take a trip to Target this week.
Hasn't quite translated to album sales in the states yet. It took until their first English single (Dynamite) to even chart on the singles chart in a lasting way. It's possible if this rollout brings big hits, but we'll see...
They’ve probably done the work they need to with singles, which is built interest for the album. Dropping a deluxe in 3-6 months will probably be the next big move. I very genuinely hope she eviscerates him, but we are indeed going to hold you to this!
BTS was the top-selling global artist of 2020, per IFPR: IFPI Global Charts - IFPI. Their late November 2020 release was #2 on their 2020 Global Top 10 Album Sales Chart. They did have three #1 Hot 100 songs in 2020 as well, but "Dynamite" was the one that had staying power on the charts, likely partially because it was getting significant radio airplay as well, which their Korean language songs do not receive. The "Savage Love" remix featuring BTS went to #1 but I don't think that particular version was played on the radio much (the contributions from the members was in both English and Korean). "Life Goes On" was almost exclusively Korean and went to #1 on the Top 100 but got zero airplay. Each of their album releases since 2018 (five albums) have gone to #1 on the Billboard 200. Basically, BTS has the fanbase to get their songs/albums to #1 and they sell extremely well, but they don't really get the radio airplay or playlisting on their Korean tracks that many western artists do to assure the same kind of staying power. Heck, they had a song on a Japanese OST earlier this year that went completely unpromoted outside of a music video and THAT got to #81 on the Hot 100. I think that made them the first artist to chart in the Hot 100 in three languages, too!
Brutal : Olivia Rodrigo :: People : The 1975 on the real though that song sounds like a mix of People + Pedestrian at Best
there's nothing else on there quite as thrashed out, but i'd put "good 4 u" and "jealousy jealousy" in a similar sonic mode. I too wish that the album had more upbeat tracks, but I think she was trying to write sad songs and they mostly come out as ballads right now.
I love this album but my one minor gripe is how it starts with a bang then goes slow/mid-tempo for the next four songs
Echoing comments that I wish this was a little more upbeat / less one note. I still like it though. Very curious to see where she goes next
