the pitchfork review calling out the kills is a good shout for this one. big allison mosshart energy in a few songs
Random but another Disney girl, Dove Cameron from the Descendants, released a song today that's surprisingly enjoyable so I'll link it here. I don't know what genre this is, is alternative dance a genre?
I’m really loving this. The influences are really right there in front of you. You can hear Billie Eilish, T Swift, Lorde, Paramore....clear as day.
I don’t love this album...mostly because lyrically it makes me feel old. But I’m really excited to see where she goes next. The song writing is really really good.
I genuinely do not think they are all that reminiscent. Like I hear the influence now but I didn’t notice the similarity until someone else pointed it out
Driver's License also sounds like Adore by Amy Shark , I think there are just so many melodies and chords
All these teenage feelings are causing me to revert to old AP posting standards: If you think “good 4 u” is identical to “Misery Business” you’re a fuckin’ dork who doesn’t understand 1. The concept of influence, 2. How chord progesssions work, and 3. Music generally Now to take an hour to sync my iPod and watch that new The Office episode
same. AP.net toxic discourse let’s go. Please. I guess I don’t understand music? my post was a little tongue in check. If it was literally “misery business” then it would be a cover. Clearly I’m talking about influence as detailed in the very next post.
Not to mention “Misery Business” is just straight about shaming another woman and “good 4 u” is about being angry at your ex for moving on and you being stuck in the same place. Not to take anything away from a Paramore song I really like, but the emotional complexity is on a whole ‘nother level.
the atlantic posted a review and the subhead or whatever is "On Olivia Rodrigo’s sharp debut album, "Sour," the singer of "Drivers License" confirms that metaphor and ambiguity are so last generation" which is some weird boomer-level shit written by someone who's probably never listened to a pop album in his life it's not a negative review in the slightest, it's just extremely stupid and patronizing framing imo
