Single favorite production detail on this whole album is the little guitar lick leading into the instrumental bridge part of “good 4 u” that sounds like “Adelaide” by Anberlin
This is pretty good! Jealousy and Favorite Crime were my favorites. Production all around is super impressive — cool to hear a bunch of different sounds through this lense
So does this album lean more towards the sound of Drivers License or Good 4 U? I’m guessing from the response here and on Twitter that the angsty teen lyrics keep up throughout the album with is definitely my lane haha
It's half and half! I would've liked them to add one more uptempo track or lose one of the ballads on the back end (imo the closer doesn't work thematically but a lot of people seem to dig it).
First listen through this, and as an album it feels a bit disjointed but the songs are very good. I had only heard "Driver's License" before (and that only once) but I'm loving the Alex Lahey vibes from "Good 4 U".
The more I listen to Good 4 U, the more I would like to hear that chorus with some louder, distortion turned up guitars chugging out some power chords lol
First listen went pretty much how I expected from the singles- really great songs, but lacking a little in energy for my tastes for the full listen. It’s a quick listen so I’ll definitely come back. It’s liberating to listen to something that’s unashamed to be youthful. A lot of artists focus really hard on acting mature, but this album’s down to be a little bratty when it’s appropriate.
Man, anyone else would bust the chorus Les of “good 4 u” wide open with big live drums and crashes and I really love the choice to keep the drums filtered and let the vocal carry it and soar
I love this on first listen. I remember Paramore doing this for Brand New Eyes (or brand new eyes, I guess), although everything is capitalized normally on streaming now.
