Short memories lol. The numbers she put up in 2015 were INSANE. Literally unheard of. Moms will eat it up her new album whenever it drops. But yeah, outside of Adele, it’s Billie and then Olivia that seem likely to dominate sales this year for an individual release. And then Taylor will cumulatively dominate with god knows how many records this year plus her most recent releases.
So excited for the album! Probably won’t listen to it until tomorrow after work, but I’m hyped to see everyone’s reactions.
It was a couple months short of five years in between 21 and 25. It’s been five 1/2 years between 25 and present day. Certainly 21 had far bigger singles/staying power and she also had Skyfall in between the two to keep her relevant plus what you referenced in regards to the culture changing so a massive decrease from 25 is inevitable. But falling down to earth numbers for her should still be huge. She recently hosted SNL to its biggest ratings outside of the season premiere and the post-election episodes without even being the musical guest. It was one of the pre-election episodes, but she had the highest rated one. Even if sales drop 66% for the new album it’s still going triple platinum. IMO Adele’s the type of artist that gets people to buy music who don’t usually buy music and you can’t discount that.
My mom has only bought 1 record in the last 20 years and it was Adele. She has no idea who Olivia is.
Plus, Adele has that single name power Anybody thinking her sales are going to be anything less than stellar are tripping
think I might go out and buy the CD on release day tomorrow first time I've done that in forever but every single has rocked and I feel extra invested in her career as a fellow Filipino-American
since Adele said she's not doing a number album title again the next one is definitely just gonna be self-titled right
I get that Adele hasn't released an album in six years, but if you don't think she's going to put up some serious sales AND streaming numbers whenever the hell she decides to come back, then I think you're insane! If anything, I think the relative "scarcity" she's created from only releasing albums every half a decade has only helped make them feel like bigger events.
i think there's a difference between "not contending for #1 album of the year" and not thinking "she's gonna put up serious sales" haha
