Cannot tell you how often I blast "Get Him Back!" into "Love Is Embarrassing". And absolutely perfect back-to-back
"Love is Embarassing" is solid, but it's no "Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl" or "Pretty Isn't Pretty." But it's also more interesting than something like "The Grudge" or "Logical"
“Some weird second-string loser who’s not worth mentioning” is such a cutting line. You hear some refer to you like that, you would consider disappearing for awhile.
Love is embarrassing sums up my dating experience in my late teens and early 20s. Falling on the sword for an absolute loser smh. Logical is also cutting and good af. Olivia healing all my quarter life traumas lol Also I wanna meet his mom just to tell her her son sucks is a whole mood So American is also very fun.
Also this album makes me feel like we need an indie sleaze olivia album and also a lil country moment
I think I’ve said something similar to this before but I think I a big reason why millennials have latched on to her so much is she is writing lyrics like a lot of emo bands of our youth did, straight forward and angsty and not embarrassed to have feelings and wear your heart on your sleeve and etc. It’s definitely “not cool” again these days to admit you’re jealous or hurt, it’s “not that deep” and etc amongst the kids these days. She’s basically doing the opposite of that and people our age aren’t as shocked to hear that in song lyrics haha. Obviously every song writer writes about broken hearts and emotions and etc, but not too many of the young cool ones are this straight forward about being jealous and looking at their current bf/gfs ex and etc.
And yes I know I’ve said here Love is Embarrassing is by far my favorite on the album. My only complaint is it’s over too soon haha. Such a fucking bop of a song with super relatable lyrics, and it would be one of the few times I’d be interested in one of those YouTube people doing some tweaks to the guitar tones and do the “If love is embarrassing was an 2003 emo song” lol
Yes it's like the emo angst feelings of adolescent romance and insecurities but from a woman's perspective and not a whiny sexist dude
“Making the Bed” is absolutely worse than “The Grudge.” At least the latter has the “this is clearly about Taylor but no one will admit it” intrigue.
Saaaaaaaaaaame. Viscerally understand the regret of humiliating yourself and later being like “for THEM?!?”
I literally texted my friend the other day this about Olivia Rodrigo: does Olivia Rodrigo make music for people her age or am I just a 30 year old that can still relate to her because I be going through it with some people
Full ranking of songs: Get Him Back! Vampire All American Bitch Love Is Embarrassing So American Bad Idea Right? Teenage Dream Obsessed Pretty Isn't Pretty The Grudge Scared of My Guitar Logical Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl Lacy Girl I've Always Been Stranger Making the Bed
all-american bitch ballad of a home-schooled girl pretty isn't pretty teenage dream bad idea right? vampire lacy get him back! making the bed love is embarassing logical the grudge have not listened to the bonus tracks yet, but I'd probably put "obsessed" over "love is embarassing"
Craig, my dear, my darling. Well done, clap clap clap clap clap. Not gonna include spilled though: Vampire Get Him Back! Bad Idea Right? All American Bitch Love Is Embarrassing Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl Pretty Isn't Pretty Teenage Dream The Grudge Lacy Making the Bed Logical
My guy, you're ranking at least three ballads above "Making the Bed" here! I think she sells "Logical" really well vocally, so that elevates it for me. Versus "Making the Bed," which I just find to be so plodding and dull.
