I really love all these new songs. But, I also think the right songs were chosen for GUTS to be the album it should be, to the point where I’d rather consider “(spilled)” a separate EP, lol. A very enjoyable EP, though!
These are definitely re-recorded. "The Girl I've Always Been" was very demo-ish on the vinyl, and it sounds way more finished/polished now.
I love all the bonus tracks but understand why they were bonus tracks. Love that she stepped a lil toe into her country era! Also girl I've always been reminded me of this lol. Not in like a super literal copying sense. Just reminded me it existed!
"Obsessed" is fun, that chorus is really good, but I'm glad it wasn't on the album. The line about being "butthurt" made me cringe and it's silly but hearing her rhyme lips with hips again just kinda made me feel like...you really couldn't do a second draft of this one? lol
This all makes sense. There wasn’t really any need to redo “Obsessed,” but the two they touched up gained a lot, imo.
I only listened to the orignals once, so I'll have to revisit them now and check out the differences!
Adding in Obsessed to the regular tracklist - leaving the rest. Great place for just one more banger on the album.
only heard obsessed previously, but these are all great. i wouldn't be mad if she leaned into a singer/songwriter, folk/Americana-adjacent vibe for LP3 (given this and her cover of Stick Season).
Honestly I feel like my favorite part about her is that she says the quiet parts out loud. I consider myself kinda... not jealous so much as resentful and insecure sometimes? And ngl I love that she leans into being resentful and petty and jealous and insecure and all those negative feelings that I think sometimes people don't address because it could look like a negative trait about them. Just love her
“love is embarrassing” is in my top three from GUTS, alongside “all-american bitch” and “the grudge.” What a perfect track to play in your car with the volume turned up.
