get him back! is perfect, obsessed with that song already all-american bitch, ballad of a homeschooled girl, love is embarassing, and pretty isn't pretty are all really great and I love them too The whole album is really good, some of the ballads are little generic and not really memorable for me but they aren't bad songs by any means. Another super solid album from her and I am not surprised at all.
Yeah I get feeling like there are some same-y elements in her ballads (and her rockers, but nobody’s ready for that conversation) but the thing that makes this album so good is every single song has some distinguishing feature or other, whether lyrical, musical or vocal. Like if you’re listening to “Logical” and aren’t losing it over her delivery on “I can’t get you off” or on that really compact and choppy outro vocal, I’m sorry. It rules.
I don't want to spark the discourse but Logical definitely feels like a Lorde track. And wow referring to an earlier post had no idea Lorde was only 21 when Melodrama came out and is only 26 now, wild.
Maybe not the same but I loved when Charli XCX had a rock leaning touring band during the SUCKER era. Don't remember if she wrote and recorded with them, for her own material at least, but I think that touring band went on to become Nasty Cherry right?
Keep seeing people reference Hole and Garbage as being influences here…where? It’s a good record, but sounds much closer to Avril or Fefe Dobson than anything Hole or Garbage, there’s not really any grunge or electronic elements on this record.
Have the same problem with this as with sour, that the ballads all sound pretty much interchangeable. This still feels like a pretty substantial step up though
They shoulda really confused the right wing chuds and went with Jenna Ortega since she’s also Latina, doesn’t fit the Snow White description, is also outspoken, but already has cred playing a pale goth queen. They’d sound dumber then they already do haha
