As others have said, I could live with maybe one less ballad because they all kind of do the same thing, as opposed to the rock songs, where she shows so much charisma and character. It's a really strong album.
Been running through this on youtube while on my planning right now, this is definitely a "bop". Kind of agree with everyone so far that the ballads are good but not necessarily "unique" or whatever, while all the other tracks are pretty awesome.
Really love the opener. Really love "bad idea right?". Like "Vampire". The rest is good, will have to grow on me with repeated listens, I wasn't listening to closely this morning.
This rules. Get Him Back and Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl are 10/10s. Agreed she could cut a ballad or two but I do find the ballads to be more varied than the ones on Sour.
I've been a holdout on Olivia Rodrigo, but this is great. Really shocked at how dynamic everything is. Sour didn't feel particularly special to me, but this has way more range and depth than your average pop record. This definitely feels like her Melodrama.
This really rules. Outside the singles, my initial favs were “All-American Bitch” and “Pretty Isn’t Pretty,” but the whole thing is good-to-great.
Wrapping it up now, it’s pretty good. Big fan of the first track, pretty isn’t pretty, and the chorus of get him back is awesome. Nothing I disliked, but I don’t see myself coming back to it as a whole too much.
This is much better than I anticipated, ballads are fine, they do their job. Only criticism is I wish it sounded just a bit less polished, the guitars and drums sound almost too clean in the mix.
Just getting started with this, but the opening trio is fantastic. I only listened to "Vampires" a couple times this summer and I think it's just a damn good pop song the way it builds. The more rock stuff so far reminds me a bit of Alex Lahey, and why does "lacy" give me Andy Hull vibes? Something about the vocal melodies over that acoustic guitar.
Does it feel to you like it would? To me, the song builds up to its own crescendo and satisfying release, and doesn’t sound like it’s leading into anything else in particular.
This is really freaking fun. I'm with everyone else thus far that she shows so much more range/dynamics on the upbeat tracks, but the ballads are all fine to good, too, with a couple really standing out. I'm glad she's leaning more heavily into the rock tendencies at a bunch of points, here. She's really good at it. I liked Sour, but I didn't find myself revisiting it all that often because I just couldn't identify with most of the lyrics. This one is so much more varied and mature.
