We have a long way to go, but barring a Taylor Midnights follow up, Olivia has to be our best hope. The current situation: HITS Daily Double
In referring to at least the Grammy’s, Midnights would count for this year right? Hoping for legit anything over Wallen.
Yeah, I'm talking strictly album sales. Midnights has to be the odds-on favorite to win Album of the Year at this point. Wallen also had the top selling album of 2021, and he didn't even get a nomination for that. I don't think he'll get one for this either. He's the biggest country star on the planet right now, and that genre fanbase finally seems to have moved over to streaming after years of being more about album sales and terrestrial radio. See also the massive success of the Luke Combs "Fast Car" cover. It also doesn't hurt that Wallen's "album" has like 5,204 tracks on it.
I don’t care for it much, but I don’t dislike it either. I think Luke is a good dude with a genuine love for that song. Weird that it’s his biggest hit ever though. Currently the number 2 song on the Hot 100, after a Morgan Wallen song. It’s like the first time in decades that two country songs have been 1 and 2 all genre.
I don't hold it against him for the cover. But it's very bland and has none of the personality of the original. Kinda like Rascal Flatts' "Life Is a Highway"
Re: the country takeover of the Hot 100, this is a good discussion about the significance of the moment from Billboard’s staff. https://www.billboard.com/music/cha...ry-top-two-five-burning-questions-1235362844/
