I DID IT!!!!! I don't know if I've ever felt more nervous playing a video game. After like 40 minutes when he was in red health and I had no idea if I would survive another turn or not it was so intense. Deliberating like 3 minutes on every action. I guess all I have left is that super crazy secret final boss?
congrats! and yeah there's a few sidequests you need to do to unlock the final dungeon. did you get all the advanced classes? I can't remember if you mentioned it
Yeah I think I've done pretty much everything I can at this point. There's a few sidequests hidden around probably.
Ok so I've been doing my second run of this one for the past few months. The first time through, I got to the final dungeon but completely failed to optimize my second party in terms of skills/equipment. So after killing all 8 bosses, I got wiped by the final boss. This time, I'm much more prepared and I have a pretty set strategy. I tested it tonight and died in the first of two phases, but I got a feel for it. Having to face all 8 bosses every time I die is a little annoying but most of them go down in a few rounds. Gonna give it another shot tomorrow.
That’s something I’ve never attempted. I basically just considered that big wolf as my end game. I haven’t played in so long now that I’d had to relearn it though.
welp, finally beat the final boss. Did it on my second try. I even split my party up the wrong way. I kept two dancers in the first phase instead of one. Somehow still managed it. Took a LOT of items tho. But it's done. Now I can say I did it.
This was 50% off on Gamestop earlier today (pre-owned) and for some reason I didn’t buy immediately. When I looked again the deal was gone. So anyone wanting to grab this game might want to check there every now and then
I'm playing this now. About halfway through the chapter 2s and starting to do some optional dungeons. Planning to get as many secondary jobs as I can now before progressing the story. Really enjoying it.
Olberic. I had no idea you had to keep your main in your party so I picked the character that seemed the most straightforward to start out with. Worked out OK though, he's a tank. Olberic, Cyrus, Therion, and Tressa are my strongest party atm. Currently using Alfyn and H'aanit to take out some of the lower-level optional dungeons because they were pretty underleveled.
Yeah Olberic destroys everything. Only downside is he can't use any magic, but his physical skills make up for it. After two playthroughs, I find it hard to not have Cyrus and Therion in my party. Cyrus' ability to identify a weakness at the start of every battle combined with wrecking everything with magic makes him OP, and using Therion to steal from every NPC nets you plenty of good stuff. Not to mention you don't have to backtrack to open those pesky purple treasure chests. Alfyn is OP in his own right. If you can utilize Concoct correctly, it has the potential to be absolutely broken.
Agreed about Cyrus and Therion. If I was starting over I'd pick one of them as my main because between those two and Olberic I often feel like I can only level up one other party member at a time. Need to look into Concoct for sure, I've barely used it. Also haven't scratched the surface of the summoning NPCs/animals mechanic.
Yeah Alfyn's concoct ability is actually great once you figure out all the moves, it's clutch for "breaking" bosses. It's annoying that you have to experiment to learn them though so I kinda looked them up online the first time lol
Did anyone here beat the final final boss of this? I think I stopped after I beat that giant wolf and then never did the true ending.
Some of the NPCs you can summon are so OP. There's a couple old grandmas out there that hit hard when summoned! Yeah don't even bother experimenting lol. There's like 3 or 4 recipes that are worth memorizing lol I didn't my first playthrough, but I did the second time. It took way too much strategy and preparation. Not really worth it unless you're a 100% type of person, which I'm not, but I just wanted to say I did it lol
So I've been chipping away at this game for over a year at this point haha. Don't normally have a lot of time to play but I've finally been able to make my way to the endgame while hanging with a newborn for a few hours a night Got through the first phase of the secret final boss last night and hoping to finish off the game tonight. Closing in on 120 hours altogether. The lore tying everything together in this final area is wild. Just an appreciation post for an amazing game. Gonna feel weird playing something else after all this time haha
I played this game for so long that I still think about it even though I finished it a year ago. Excited to spend another couple years inching through Octopath 2
Hell yeah I was hoping this thread got bumped. So stoked for the second one. This article highlights a few things. There's a day/night cycle which affects path actions and the environment. And the characters do actually interact. 8 things you need to know about OCTOPATH TRAVELER II | Square Enix Blog
bumping the shit out of this thread because of the demo drop Who did you choose?? How far are you? What do you like/not like?? For myself, I chose the thief. Already finished her chapter and I've gone to pick up the cleric!
OK FINE I'LL START I only have about 30 minutes left until the 3 hour limit for the demo, not sure if I'll restart and try any other characters. So far I've finished the thief's first chapter, the cleric's first chapter, and I just got to the scholar. The cleric is hilarious, definitely a twist on the typical tropes of a male healer. The dude is rather blasé about the gods and literally beats information out of people lol. Love it. From what I've noticed, the chapter structure seems much less linear than the first game, which was basically go to a town - use path action - dungeon - end. That was a main concern for me from the first one, which was super formulaic. Also cool that each character gets some side party members that fight with you for a little bit instead of being completely on their own, that wasn't in the first one either. Love the day/night cycle and the fact that path actions change based on the time. Love the addition of latent powers. How is this game even prettier than the first one? And it's not surprising, but got damn the music is incredible.
I just bought Engage today, so I probably won't get to OP2 for a little while, but definitely will be picking it up next. Don't even need to play the demo, pretty sure I'm gonna love it.
