Yeah, I was just...browsing about the world last night while playing and looking at how far I am from the recommended level for all my chapter 2s. I've got maybe 2 characters left to grab before I head in that direction. I do love, however, how powerful so many of the passive skills are straight out the gate. It really feels like my progress is PROGRESS.
How do you guys feel about your starting characters? Is there one single character you feel is best and justifies being in your party forever? Wondering if I should stick with Olberic from my demo or restart.
Haanit getting 2 of her support skills to basically attack as often as she can makes her a great main party member imo
H'aanit is also my main, she's fantastic to start with. As mentioned, her capture mechanic gives her access to a broad range of weapon types. It seems like Ophelia and Therion would be pretty hard to start with. I feel like the latter is most useful as a utility character, i.e. stealing from NPCs and opening purple chests. I don't think I'd want him to be my main because you can't remove him from the party. As far as starting characters go, Olberic really is a solid choice.
I started with Cyrus and he is easily my strongest character. His magic power can wipe out guys without them even breaking. I'm on Chap 4 I need to get back into it. I've been playing Enter The Gungeon non stop lol.
I'm also definitely sold on having chosen H'aanit as my starter. My current party is her, Tressa, Primrose, and Alfyn and I'm really enjoying all of them. I like Therion, but agree that he's best as a utility. Olberic seems cool, too, but I'm more interested in playing characters I like right now and he hasn't gripped me too much so far. About to get Cyrus and Ophelia, so can't comment on them yet.
That's my exact party too! Extremely well balanced. Primrose wrecks mobs as a Scholar with magic and Tressa works great as a BP battery/Thief.
I really gotta unlock more classes - still getting through these chapter 1 stories, slowly but surely. Thought I was gonna plow through this game, but here I am.
So this is what I'm doing right now. There is an NPC in Grandport (a chapter 4 town, danger level 45) that if you Inquire/Scrutinize them, it will drastically raise the percentage of steal rates in the town, and there is a ton of insane gear to be stolen there. Problem is, Alfyn has to be level 50 to Inquire of them. And the house they're in is blocked by an 8 or 9 level toughness NPC with like 22,000 HP. Bummer. Whenever you leave Grandport, there is a 100% chance that the first encounter will be against two Kingfishers. They are week to bow, spear, and wind, and have a shield level of 4. It's easy to break them with H'aanit's Arrowstorm attack. Then just lay into them while their shields are down. Each battle with them nets a little over 600 xp. After the fight, I'll run back into the town and then exit again, and then fight another two of them. Rinse and repeat. Alfyn was level 42 when I started and he's at 47 now. I'll get him to 50, beat the NPC blocking the door, Inquire of the person within, then go on an absolute stealing spree in the market. That's my Friday night.
This is all great info. Haven't played in a week gonna dive back into chap 4's tonight. Also, olberic can take care of 22,000 hp in less than 10 turns ;)
FInished all the chapter 1s yesterday. Ended up keeping Olberic as my main and glad I did. He’s an absolute beast. Gave him the item that restores SP after every round so he can just spam stuff.
Oooooof I love how you can feel totally in control of a boss fight for like 10 minutes and then all of a sudden they drop some combo and you're reeling just healing and reviving for the next 10 minutes to your slow and inevitable death.
Was battling Tressa’s chapter 2 boss for almost thirty minutes when he called for backup and obliterated me. This fucking game sometimes.
Oh man, I killed a Cait simply by using a medium soul stone and everyone went up two levels. I also spent about 90 minutes grinding in Carrion Cave and leveled up like crazy.
I just beat him! My first Chapter 2 boss. Was tough. The backup rattled me though just when I thought I was in the clear lol
I beat the boss for the Sorcerer advanced job the other day, mannnnnnn it was so hard. I had to take advantage of the saving grave learned skill that lets you heal past your HP. So satisfying winning the battle though.
I'm in the middle of her Ch 2, so glad to know I have something to look forward to lol It didn't take long for me to dread bosses calling in backup in this game. What are people's strategies once this happens? Last boss I beat was I think Therion's Ch 2 and luckily he only recalled one extra enemy so I mostly just ignored it and still focused on the boss and then dealt with the backup afterwards.
I always take out the back ups with Cyrus before attacking the main boss. Thousand Spears and the bow and arrow equvialent are also great for getting back ups to break quickly. They usually have a spear or bow weakness. But yeah whenever the backups respawn I take them out before the main boss. It's worked for me so far and I'm in the chap 4's.
So...here's this. (Spoilers in the article) We need to talk about the sexist garbage in 'Octopath Traveler'
