I’ve got two final chapters left. Throne and Osvald. Just did Partitio before bed last night. Saved my favs for last but even the characters I wasn’t as invested in had extremely satisfying conclusions so I’m excited to see how the last two wrap up. Also sounds like there’s still a good chunk of game left in the epilogue before the final battle

Yeah even for Hikari's post-final chapter alone, there are like 4 side quests. There's the aforementioned Tower for the Conjurer job, and another Crossed Paths chapter with an optional dungeon. Also gives you access to a few Battle-Tested Weapons, which are the best weapons in the game.

And yeah I think there's a similar big bad final boss similar to the first game that will involve all 8 travelers, so I hope everyone has been leveling their whole team lol

You have to do all the crossed paths anyway to unlock the final boss fight

I found it much easier to level my entire team evenly than in the first game

Finally had some time the last few days to really get into this. Got everyone on the eastern side of the map and am going through Castti’s first chapter now.

all I wanna do is go home and play this game, it’s so good

The true final boss is the only thing I didn’t do in the first game. Watched some videos and that shit was wild.

Yeah it was something. My very first file, I knew that you needed all 8 members to assemble two teams of 4, but I didn't know that once the first phase was complete, the second phase immediately begins and your second team is switched in automatically. My second team wasn't equipped at all even though they were properly leveled. I obviously got destroyed and just gave up.

My second playthrough, I meticulously followed a guide to have a very specific setup and it was still hard af. Such an annoying boss, especially since you need to face the final bosses of each character's story again with no save point right before. That's some FF3 nonsense lol

I really loved the first game for a solid 20-25 hours then dropped off a cliff pretty hard b/c it started to feel so repetitive - Is the consensus that this game is much better with the repetition, or lack thereof?

Apparently this games final boss isn’t quite as hard as the first games but galdera does make a return as an optional end game boss

Much better. Instead of 8 characters and 4 chapters, some characters have 5. The structure is way less linear. For example, Osvald's 1st chapter immediately goes into his second chapter. Some chapters have no bosses, some chapters have dungeons but no bosses, and some chapters have neither and are just story portions. You can also choose the order of chapters for several characters. For example, Throne has 2 chapters she can do in any order after her second chapter, while Ochette has 3 right after her first chapter she can do in any order. Of course, the recommended levels will sort of indicate which ones to do first, but I found myself jumping around a lot.

Partitio also has mini chapters that are kinda like fetch quests, and there's the aforementioned Crossed Paths chapters, where two characters will share a chapter together. These are usually just story pieces but some of them have dungeons/bosses.

So yeah, it's much less linear than the first one. And as mentioned in this thread already, the writing seems to have improved a lot.

On another note, I have now completed the main story for Throne, Osvald, Temenos, and Hikari. Loved those big boss fights. I also just completed the Five Tiered Tower and unlocked the Conjurer job, so I have all the secret jobs now.

Guess I'll tackle a few more final chapters today.

Wow, that sounds remarkably different and far more interesting. Do the chapters for the different characters have different level requirements? IIRC in the first game, the levels for each chapter were very similar if not the same for all characters.

Yeah, they're kind of all over the place. The only place where they are the same is each character's final chapter, which is level 45. But I've seen some chapter 2s at anywhere from level 9-14, and some chapter 3s anywhere from 17-28ish. There's really a lot of variance.

Perfect, exactly what I wanted from the second game. I’ve held off for opinions but I’m probably going to go snag a copy today.

I've seen maybe 4 or 5 in 54 hours lol. I have two of those Cait Powder accessories. I find the Octopuffs way more often.

I also had one creepy moment where there was like a shadow monster and really creepy music was playing and I couldn't change the time back to daylight before hand. I assume it's something related to the end game.

yeah this happened to me! the map turned all purple and eerie and I encountered a scary shadow monster. I didn't look it up and I'm assuming it has something to do with endgame stuff, but it definitely caught me off guard.

All eight stories finished. All four post game crossed paths done. Don’t care much for the orange side stories so I’m gonna jump into the final quest. I absolutely love this game and will be sad when I’m finished, but man I have been unable to play anything else for the last two weeks and need to play some shit in my backlog lmao

Just finished the last story (Partitio's). Have all the Battle Tested Weapons and finished every side story. There's a level 52 dungeon in the sea that I think I'll go grind at. I hired Alrond because he apparently can give a 100x EXP bonus when you summon him in battle. Gonna get grinding for a bit. All my characters are in the mid 60s, except Throne who is at 73.
