I thought this was absolutely phenomenal. I went back and watched Barker's past horror work on Youtube yesterday to prepare after never having really heard of him before but goddamn am I all in on this guy now. The shorts were great, I thought Milk & Serial was absolutely amazing and this movie felt like the natural culmination of all of that. The fact that he's only 26 years old is genuinely exciting, this guy has it This movie was beautifully shot, hit just the right tone for me (although I understand some people finding it a bit too mean-spirited) and felt original too despite the premise itself having been done before. I already want to see it again too
Man, I really loved this. Couldn’t imagine seeing this movie on a date, you got a keeper if they text you back the next day after seeing this.
Curry rules. All of his horror stuff has been great, his comedy skits on YouTube / tiktok have all been great too. Really excited to see where he goes.
this was so good, a lot more funny moments than I was expecting but never let up on the tension either. the scene where she was watching him sleep from the corner of the room genuinely had me shaking a bit, reminded me of the nightmare scenes in Together which got me way worse than the body horror also I'm sure the thread already covered this but fuuuuuck that main guy whatever his name was. we might finally have a horror mc who sucks worse than Micah in Paranormal Activity
cannot believe I had to watch this scene and then a different character got their head bashed in instead of Bearon immediately after smh
>> I wonder if the monkey’s paw thing only applies to wishes about people. Dude who wished for a billion dollars had it come true instantly and we didn’t get to see a downside >> Well, maybe it can be argued that it blinded him to the warning signs, making him dumb enough to follow Bear home and be promptly killed >> Oh okay, Curry Barker has made his attitude towards billionaires known. Go off king
All the random inhuman movements Nikki made while possessed was so unnerving, especially in the final scene when he gets back home and she does that super creepy sneaking around.
think that's one of the main reasons i want to see it again. alot of subtle things like that i'm sure would stick out even more on second viewing
Haven’t been that deeply unsettled during a horror movie in a long time. Any time Nikki was on screen (which was the whole movie) I was on edge on what was about to happen. Great horror movie
I couldn't get to sleep last night cos of this fucking movie lol speaking of subtle details, that scene where she's watching him from the corner it looked like they were using some VFX to make her look like an old woman? or am I tripping
The ending of this is something I’ve been mulling over in my head since I watched it. So it’s implied that Nikki is basically trapped inside her own body the whole time while Bear selfishly uses her to indulge his internal fantasies of Nikki, that’s really fucked up. What’s more fucked up? Like you endured who knows how much time inside your own body watching this guy take advantage of you and when you finally are free of this, two of your friends are dead around you and the guy responsible for this killed himself, so you’re just left there comprehending not only this experience but also that there will be no true resolution and you never will get that. That is just insanely heavy to think about honestly.
Could she tell what was happening to her? I almost took it like she was in literal hell or something and wasn't even in her own body anymore except the few flashes of her returning to her body like at the party.
One could argue being trapped in your own body as it completely out of your own physical control is a type of hell. I think she was very aware.
Well that’s the thing, it’s clear in those moments that she’s still in her body whenever the entity that’s controlling her occasionally loses the grip because otherwise, how could she talk to him in the bedroom if her soul is trapped elsewhere?
Even if not wholly apparent that her real true self is trapped inside her body by a domineering entity, the things that she was doing should have tripped every alarm in Bear's head. I'm sorry but if someone who I cared about and wanted to like me used rolls of duct tape on my front door to keep me inside or stealthily fed me bits of my dead pet, I'd be seeking out help. Bear is a total pos blinded by everything and he gets off so easy in the end Edit: I thought grimace's post at first was about Bear not being able to tell what she was going through, and not Nikki herself. nevermind haha
One question I did have was what exactly was the jenga tile Nikki pulled? I assume it was something like read a diary entry or sing a song to avoid drinking and that is why she read an excerpt from a story she wrote? It wasn't enough for me to lose anything, I just think I missed what the tile specifically indicated.
That’s why I wasn’t a fan of this movie. It’s about a girl being tormented and when she is finally free she now will get blamed for all the murders. Just a depressing, macabre, overly dark film.
I think what makes the ending so good is he did try to stop his suicide. He was a terrible, selfish, POS the entire movie, obviously. And at the end he took all the pills to take the easy way out like a coward. However, he immediately tried to make himself puke them out. It was the first moment but the last possible moment the charlie kirk looking dude finally was taking an ounce of responsibility to face his actions. But before he could puke them out is when she snapped the one wish willow to make him love her which stopped his process of throwing up and ultimately led to his overdose. it is so dark and grim. Personally, I thought it fit with the film's total bleakness
