ANYWAYS, the party scene feels like a real turn in terms of where the vibes are headed, and Sarah's death is probably the thing that will make or break this for people. My jaw dropped a couple of times, but I was totally on board (even if I felt bad for her, which is obviously the point). Biggest laugh from me came when the store owner was acting super non-chalant about the One Wish Willow and was casually explaining that Baron could kill himself if he wanted lol. The decision to have people call the main character Bear at a time when The Bear is an active show that exists was distracting and may actually be my biggest nitpick lmao.
Only time my audience made any noise was at the beginning when Nikki and Bear were speaking in the car. She told him that if he liked her then now was the time to tell her and he still acted like he didn’t so an older guy in the row under mine said “fucking idiot” and then his (I’m assuming) wife told him to hush lol
I don't agree with the actual critique in here, but this made me laugh because this reviewer is also hung up on his name: A ★★★ review of Obsession (2025)
Listened to Barker’s interview on The Big Picture and he seems decent However he says he’s from a small town in Alabama I look it up and it’s Mobile like 180k population is not a small town poser
I also found the name thing weird and thought maybe there would be a thematic reveal or maybe some exposition around it meant to enrich the character. Don’t always think that kind of thing with names, maybe it was triggering something about The Bear in my subconscious too. Must have not bothered me much because I didn’t think about it again until now
I think it was just short for Baron, but it took my a while for me to realize that was actually his name lol
I know trigger warnings are a touchy subject but I can't believe we got a does the dog die immediately Personally if a cool hot alt girl was into me I would be stoked but I'm weird like that I guess also imagine being such a creep that you are the only one in the friend group who doesn't know their crush has an estranged relationship with their father
It was packed for my screening on Friday afternoon, loads of people arrived at the screening in large groups as well
I went at 1020 last night and it was a mostly full screening. Loved the movie. The main actress fucking killed it.
Loved this, great performance(s) obviously, and really appreciated the bleakness, humor, themes etc. And I don’t wanna pin them against each other, but I liked Hokum more? I’m always gonna relate those two and Backrooms together because of the release calendar. I think hype is always detrimental as well though. Anyway, May has been a special month so far.
this is my favorite thing i’ve seen in a minute. just got out of the theatre about 30 minutes ago and i immediately need to see it again. completely absurd and fucked up in all the best ways. had the biggest shit eating smile on my face for the final 5 minutes. a+++++ gonna be thinking about this one for a long time!
This didn’t live up to the hype for me unfortunately. Found it dull and uninteresting. Main actress was great though.
