this record has officially grabbed hold of me. its really starting to click. every listen now, i have at least a couple of those moments where you listen to something and think "how did this part not hit me like a ton of bricks before now?!"
It's weird when it comes to O'Bro records I loooved TDOD and GW. But then ditched both after Disillusion because they kinda lost me with that one even though tbh it's really not bad I just could never get into it as much as I wanted. The new one I like but again I just can't stick with it.....why?
like i said earlier, i think their releases are a lot to digest in just a couple listens. i really think there songs / recording style / albums make for a veeery dense listening experience. i think O'Brother is a heavy heavy band in that sense. so i guess, you just gotta listen to it a lot for a bit, and itll either get better and better, oooor its just not someones cup of tea.
O'Bro albums have been growers for me too. Spent the entire summer of 2012 with Garden Window until I really came around to it that fall. Took me 5+ listens for Disillusion to really click with me in 2013 (although it didn't hold up as well over time but I still like it). This one was somewhat the same. I loved it upon first listen, but the back half didn't really stick with me despite feeling really impressed. Now I'm about five listens in and this album is my shit.
I kept mine too, I only slightly changed it. I'm realizing that AP was huge and I knew way less people than I thought. I doubt anyone even knows who I was.
The title track is my jam. So lyrics / vocals are so haunting. "I was clearly wrrrrrroooooonnnnnnggggggggg...." gives me the shakes, man.
the only bad thing about this video is how few people were at this show to witness this when they show the crowd at the end. but WOW.
I actually don't mind the closer on I'm Only a Man and the album itself is not bad. It's an unpopular opinion but i think it never deserved all the hate it gets.
I'm seeing them for the first time in May in Madison with The Dear Hunter (also the first time seeing TDH). Incredibly excited.
