Oh shit. Am I finally going to get into O'brother now? First half of this record is connecting more than anything else I've heard from them.
Same. The vibe here is great. My holdback with them has always been vocals, but I'm feeling more receptive to them this time around.
I can’t argue with you, but like the person above me said, it’s just not my cup of tea. I understand he’s not technically bad, and probably technically better than a lot of singers I do love. Just never clicked before.
I think Tanner has a unique voice. His croon and falsetto is perfect for this band’s sound. With that said, I do think he’s kinda hit or miss live, but not enough to ever detract from me wanting to see them.
Every time I listen to this I love it more and more. The songwriting is really strong here. A lot of bands that were heavier or more progressive strip back their sound and it shows that they can't write a good song. With these guys it's probably the opposite, the "simplicity" (cause some of these are still very complex to play) of these songs really show how great they are at songwriting.
Also, these guys need to get into making soundtracks, I've thought that since Garden Window, but this is definitely the noisiest music they've ever made.
Agreed. I’ll never forget really connecting with Garden Window (“Lo” specifically) while driving through middle of nowhere country roads surrounded by sunflowers that seemed to be 8 feet tall everywhere. Just me, the road and alllllll those sunflowers while “Lo” blasted through my speakers. It was fun yet kind of eerie even though it was a bright summer day. Felt like a scene from a movie or something.
god this is SOOOOO fucking good. I think killing spree has taken over from oh charitable thief as my favourite song of theirs. Malum/Lo is the reason I couldn't get into that album more. I absolutely hated that melody
Also this thread is impossible to find with search. The search just shows the band thread and not this thread.
what search terms are you using? I just did “you and i” & “obrother you & i” and the thread showed up in both searches.
weird. I just tried it and this album thread was the first option in the general search, third searching just titles. switched to incognito mode and it's gone, even when I'm still logged in.
Finally listening to this on a pair of good headphones. Man so many cool electronic moments/textures that I didn’t pick up on before. Leave Me Out is so evil in the best way. Love that creepy 1920’s piano melody.
