Sorry to bump, but I did a discog run yesterday for the first time in a long time. While I think this last record is their weakest and it all trended a bit down since Garden Window, that album, Disillusion, and Endless Light are truly incredible. Even this one has some truly transcendent moments. Miss this band, hope they're just cooking up something new in their silence.
I know they played a show last year with Balance And Composure, but are they even still a band anymore?
Unclear but probably, just inactive. No responses to many questions about that on their instagram and nothing posted for a year.
Yeah I’ve been under the assumption that they just aren’t really a band anymore. The livestream they did for Garden Window was dope, but I have zero expectations of them ever doing anything again. It’s unfortunate, especially because I never got into the last album, but oh well
Being super pedantic here, but Death of Day came out before that and was amazing, and they were playing GW songs on tours all the way back to 2009, so they had plenty of time to refine before it finally dropped
if we're being really pedantic, In Comparison To Me was first. Different singer, different style but I think it's underrated.
going down a rabbit hole here and with these couple of pedantic posts, it makes think about seeing these dudes when they were still called DayAfterDay opening for Cartel at a mall skatepark in duluth, ga lol. i think the Dang bros and the In Comparison to Me singer are the only ones that were in that band but the change from that sound to what they ended up sounding like with tanner is so fucking wild lol.
Death of Day is great but Garden Window was still a serious level up. I like Disillusion and Endless Light both more than Death of Day too, personally.
Saw them play "Drown You Out" a few times after Tanner joined (possibly others but that one stands out) and it was heavy as fuck, so good
I didn't get into the new album, but these guys are sick live and loved most of their stuff. It is a bummer if they don't come back.
Sorry to bump but I’m listening to this for the first time in a while and still love it. It’s probably the O’Brother album I return to the least but I’m a huge fan of how eerie and subdued it is. Slipping is the coolest song. I miss these guys.
