Finally finished this, wish I hadn't wasted my time. Show would have had real potential without Luke/Leia.
The Making Of for this is so good, got me feeling all the feels For me, it feels very cool to watch these when there's an Asian female director. This, Eternals, the bts dvd features for Birds of Prey. Just to put a face to the name and say hey they kind of look like me.
Was coming in here to tell anyone who hasn't watched the making of feature to definitely do so, some really great stuff in there with Ewan and Hayden. Well worth the hour.
just finished this and woof was it rough. the empty ship gambit thing, Reva parkouring over roofs and game cutscene ass Obi Wan throwing the most weightless rocks ever at Vader are straight up some of the worst Star Wars moments ever. characters just teleporting around to places they couldn't possibly get to when the narrative required it like Game of Thrones. Obi having this deep relationship with Leia and meeting Luke actively subtracts from ANH instead of adding to it, I mean these characters have clearly never interacted before in that movie. also whoever decided to use "hello there" should be fired lol some good stuff: Ewan's performance obviously, especially the "I'm sorry" in the last episode. he really sold that shit even though the whole emotional beat was taken from Rebels which did it so much better lol. kid actor who played Leia was really talented even though the precocious kid/retired fighter thing is so played out it's insane at this point, Hayden also really worked his small screentime. Tala was a really good character I'd like to see more of, and Reva's final redemption moment was pretty well done not great on the whole though, could have been so much more. I'm really curious what the original idea for this show was before they pushed it back and I assume added Vader and all the other shit
Big disagree on Ben meeting Leia subtracts anything. It adds to ANH. When Leia cries out to Luke, wanting confirmation Ben was there, has more meaning now.
One part I really loved about the.parallel was the fact that each broke a separate side of the mask. The implication being that if they'd gone together they could have fully unmasked Vader and brought him back? Who knows really but I thought the "rhyme" if you will was earned and deeper than just copying the beat from Rebels.
Eh, I disagree. Anakin was fully gone at this point. Even owning that he, Vader, killed Anakin. “Unmasking” Vader just revealed more Vader in both fights. If in either fight he had wavered toward the light, I’d maybe buy it. But he leaned into darkness with both.
