Okay fine maybe A New Hope doesn’t explicitly say they don’t meet again once Kenobi goes into exile but, idc that’s always been my head cannon and I hope it stays that way haha
I mean, I’m sure most have viewed it that way. But based on the concept art it seems like they shall meet up here. As long as they play it right, it can neatly fit into the line from ROTJ, “obi-wan says once thought as you do.”
Except Vader said in ANH "I've been waiting for you, Obi-Wan. We meet again at last except for that one time we met on Disney+. The circle is now complete. When I left you I was but the learner, now I am the master."
Really hope Liam Neeson has a cameo in this. Qui-Gon does teach Obi-Wan how to be one with the force during this time period so it's possible.
I'm okay with the idea of Obi-Wan and Vader fighting again. My only apprehension is that it'll end up just being a live action riff on Ahsoka vs Vader in Rebels.
Kathleen Kennedy literally said Obi-Wan and Vader would have the "rematch of the century" and Ewan has confirmed he has a fight with Hayden. It's happening.
Man this would've been so great as a quiet, contemplative character piece about Obi-wan learning to live with his failure re: Anakin, watching over young Luke, and finding a way to move forward. Instead we're getting action schlock with the member berries turned up to maximum. A shame.
This is such a weird take. We don’t know the tone of the show in anyway yet. We don’t know how much action there will be beyond one fight. We know almost nothing about the show so I don’t know how you are so sure it will just be member berries. The cast lists we know seems to indicate a bunch of new characters. you are so confident about this based on essentially nothing.
It's based on the Disney+ day video they released for it (where they said that Obi-wan's life on Tatooine with young Luke is just the "jumping off point" for some kind of grand adventure and showed concept art of Kenobi and Vader dueling in a fiery setting), plus comments like Kennedy's about how we're getting the "rematch of the century" (that nobody asked for). But hey I'd love to be wrong!
But that fight can be and likely is the end of the show. There is no indication there won’t be quiet episodes or sequences for in depth character work. I’ve wondered about what Vader was referring to in ROTJ for a long time. We haven’t really seen Obi-Wan try to save Anakin. He pretty quickly wrote him off on Mustafar. did you really expect a season of tv was going to just be people sitting around thinking?
Doesn't matter what I thought they would actually do, it's what I wanted and what I personally think would have been the best route to go here. Something different. But these shows have been trending away from what I want out of them ever since Mandalorian season 2 and all of its backdoor pilots so I can't really say I'm surprised at how things are turning out. Really haven't been excited about Star Wars content at all since The Last Jedi, despite enjoying Solo and Mandalorian season 1. Makes me sad.
I'm curious now, what would you have wanted each episode to be like? Just a day in the life of a hermit?
